Above the Clouds....
After spending our vacation in South Tyrol, I thought it was time to engage with the brand "Bergduft." And I would like to start with ALPENROSE.

There are already very nice comments about this fragrance, but I would like to share my impressions with you.

Alpenrose, yes, there are countless varieties that can be discovered high up in the mountains. My favorite was the "Rusty-leaved Alpenrose," which showed its true splendor at an altitude of 2,000 meters. It is never alone, but grows as a bush in the beautiful colors of fuchsia or pink.

Now to the scent. After I sniffed the fragrance from a respectful distance, I had to smile. Yes, the start was a bit scratchy and slightly piercing. As if the rose wanted to say, you can look, but just don’t touch!! After I was able to calm it down and it realized that I only wanted to bask in its beauty, the scratchiness disappeared and a gentle spicy note remained.

In the heart, I then experience the rose in all its glory, round and rich. The scent gains warmth, which is probably harmoniously brought out by the vanilla. But nothing here is sweet, no, it is a spicy warmth that makes my heart rejoice.

The final touch for this wonderful fragrance comes from the sandalwood. Altogether, I have the impression that it merges with my skin and lets us cuddle together. It’s like the feeling at the top of the mountain, where I discovered a meadow at 2,100 meters that was so beautiful, and one could only wish to lie down in this lush floral meadow and float high above the clouds.

This fragrance is very feminine, yet I can also imagine it wonderfully on men. I can only report positive things about its longevity. The scent is present for hours and leaves nothing to be desired.

It will be my companion on our next vacation. Then I won’t have to climb the mountains every time I want to escape from the world……

Wonderful Alpine Rose with Strong Echo=Sillage
The rose has it all, as it is an Alpine rose and has a strong echo. I no longer recognize a normal rose scent - the composition is too abstract for that.
Actually, I don't like loud fragrances, but one must be careful with the dosage or save it for home..

Its scent is more like that of a geranium with acacia and many spices - and above all aldehydes cushioned with powdery musk.

Aldehydes provide a super-sparkling perfumery note throughout the entire scent journey, spices I estimate to be cloves, cinnamon, and anise, tonka, vanilla, gourmand notes (a slight popcorn note) are all abundantly present.

Sillage - 5-10 meters - experience-based after inquiries with acquaintances
Longevity - 24 hours and more on the skin

This super rose has so much power that I cannot wear the fragrance all the time and only spray it in small amounts or just into the air and turn in the spray mist.

My personal tip for cold season: you can still smell the perfume even with a stuffy nose.

But it is mine - and the next cold can come - I am prepared.

Number 26???
That I am a rose lover is probably well known to many parfumos by now. So it was only natural that I wanted to test this rose as well, and thanks to a nice parfumo friend, I was finally able to do so. My thanks again at this point.

I was a bit puzzled that three of my four previous commentators are male, as fragrances develop differently on male skin than on female skin.

This morning at 7:35 AM, I made the attempt. The opening was very strong and spicy, fresh but not citrusy, and incredibly sweet. For the first hour, I really held my arm to the side, at times even covered it with a manual, as it was so sweet and still very noticeable through the towel. I admit, I was close to washing it off. So much sweetness in the early morning is hard for me to handle.

The sweetness then slowly, really very slowly, faded. It is now 11:55 AM and it is still present. Despite the sweetness, I could perceive a floral note. Rose was already there, but not predominant. It simply smelled of flowers, very, very sweet flowers, from a distance of about 50 cm. Directly on the skin, it smelled quite different. There were spicy, slightly green notes noticeable, and the sweetness was not as strong.

More than 4 hours have now passed, and the base has joined in. Now the scent is no longer quite as sweet, rather sweetish, and very well balanced with the sandalwood, musk, and tonka. Now I like it well, although I would still say it is floral, not rosy.

The sillage is impressive. If you go out of the house with this scent, you should apply it well in advance and let it settle a bit before mingling with people, as the initial sweetness might make some feel unwell.

For me, Alpenrose is simply too intense, so it will not become number 26 among my rose fragrances. I will try layering the scent; maybe I can tolerate it better then...

Innocently Beautiful Rose
So, Alpenrose has been tested - and it is definitely feminine.
A beautiful, straightforward scent that radiates innocence, reminding me somehow of naive folk art. I can't quite say what exactly causes that. Nothing feels synthetic here, but simply natural in the truest sense of the word and indeed - sweet, but not too sweet, not too floral, not too powdery...
Rose scents often evoke the image of older ladies or one's own grandmother... that's not the case here; the Alpenrose gives me a rather modern, youthful impression and, in my opinion, can also be excellently worn by younger women.
Really beautiful, no question about it, yet "only" 90% - had I been able to wear this scent as a man, it would have been a full 100%.

Rose Monologue
I am in a dilemma. Do I like Alpine Rose? Or do I not like Alpine Rose? Does Alpine Rose smell good? Or does Alpine Rose not smell good? Is this a modern fragrance? Or is this an old-fashioned fragrance? Is it cool? Or is it warm? Is this a rose scent? Or is this not a rose scent?

Sometimes, such complexities in perfumes can enchant us. However, here I cannot enjoy these contradictions; they irritate me. And they actually annoy me a bit.

A brief overview: I like rose scents. I am less fond of floral powerhouses. And soapy is not my preferred target. Classic is not inherently bad. Squeaky sweet, on the other hand, is.

And for these reasons, Alpine Rose does not really work. A rose scent, yes, but (despite all the other notes) very soliflore, and in epic breadth. The intensity is fierce and voluminous. The scent character is somehow cool and soapy, a bit "sharp" and edgy. The actually romantic and sometimes lovely rose has broad muscles and teeth. It comes across as extremely self-assured and loud, which overwhelms me. Hardly anything has been placed beside it to soften this massive presence or to split it into further kaleidoscopic facets. For example, some musk for more sensuality, or spicier spices for a more oriental touch, or more vanilla for added sweetness. Instead, Alpine Rose remains very dark rosy-red and full-bodied intense. A touch too harsh and floral-bitter. The racily velvety rose petals are there - however pure, and they tolerate no other supporting players. If you like that, you are definitely in the right place in this one-man show.

I cannot really criticize Alpine Rose; it is made too well in terms of quality. However, it simply does not suit my taste. It does not fit me, and therefore it lies like a foreign body, heavy as lead, on my skin. And: I have a wardrobe scent (that I never use), a small bottle of fragrance direction "Rose," which you drip onto a sponge in a plastic piece and hang between the clothes. And it smells just like that. Unfortunately. This association is constantly in my mind or in my nose, and that is not really helpful. Because the wardrobe scent is, on one hand, mixed very intensely so that it can scent for as long as possible. And on the other hand, it always comes across as a bit too much, somehow forced, so overly strained to be trimmed and composed to "Rose" that you definitely realize it is supposed to smell like rose. And Alpine Rose strikes me similarly. Unfortunately.
