As with many sweet/gourmand perfumes, there is a base of patchouli that I either like or don't. I found a bottle of this at a deep discount, so it was of little gamble. This ended up being an OK scent, but as celebrity/youth oriented fragrances go, there is almost always something that smells similar. Pulse NYC smells very similar, but not quite the same as, Nina Ricci's Ricci Ricci. This one is a bit sweeter. And as hard as I try to smell it, I can't smell the red velvet cupcake accord.

Patchouli-Pear

"Pulse NYC" is a refreshing change as a star fragrance that doesn't ooze sugar.
I also find it not as generic as Beyoncé's other scents; it stands out from the crowd.

It vaguely reminds me of Jil Sander's "Eve," just without the brandy mock. However, it is not a gourmand fragrance; I completely miss the cupcake here.

At first, the pear stands out clearly, juicy and aromatic, but only slightly sweet. As the scent develops, plenty of patchouli comes in, completely taking away the sweetness. The floral notes are very subtle here; essentially, it is an aromatic patchouli-pear that is neither particularly exciting nor annoying.

Nice everyday scent, little change, pretty bottle.

This is an afternoon in the pretty little garden

But quite clearly!

This scent absolutely does not catapult me to New York.
Instead, the pulse is brought down to a state of complete calm, through this soft, shallow floral water.

It starts off very gently with pear and rose, then transitions softly to orchid, and finally culminates in a truly "cakey," vanilla note.

Nice to smell, yes.

Unspectacular? Even more so.

I find that "Pulse NYC" really smells pleasant. The fact that I smell cake/cupcake is also an absolute plus, great that something like this works. (Unless my brain is playing tricks on me)
Raspberry also comes through nicely in small sparks after a while.

Unfortunately, it is somehow too gentle, like a feather that flies away right after it has touched the hand. You have to press your nose right against your hand to smell anything. And if you test it on the go, you almost forget that you are wearing perfume on your hand that you actually want to sniff...

Overall, the scent gives me the feeling that I am dozing in a hammock in the summer. Lovely flowers and fruit blossoms are blooming everywhere, and my bare foot brushes through the cool grass while bees buzz around me.

Great as a gift, but not a must-have.
