A Humid Summer Downpour
If you’ve ever experienced a summer thunderstorm rolling in across the Appalachian countryside, you know how beautiful that humid downpour scent is. Low-Key is inspired by the rainy mountains of Jiufen, Taiwan, and its longstanding tea culture, but it smells so much like the humid rainy air I’ve experienced every summer. Spraying this perfume instantly conjures the memories of gray cloud-castles blowing in from the western horizon, slowly approaching to block out the sun, thunder rumbling like a disgruntled cat, and the change in the smell of the air before the inevitable curtain of rain descends.
From there, it shifts to the light, delicate sweetness of peach and the comfort of oolong tea. You’re now indoors, sheltered, with the screen door open so you can listen to the rain slap against the roof, driveway, and the trees outside. Watching from safety with a soothing drink as lightning blinks between the clouds and the thunder continues to roll every few flashes.
By the end, you’re left with a comforting base that still clings to the last traces of that downpour. The storm slowly slinks onward. The scent if your mother’s flower beds is weighed down by the rain. Droplets leisurely roll off of leaves as the sun pokes back out, noticeably lower than before. The air is warm, but not nearly as thick and heavy as it was prior to the rain. The day will be over soon, you may as well let yourself relax for the rest of the evening.
If you want something that leaves you feeling warm, comforted, soothed, and refreshed all in one, Low-Key is your scent. I find this one perfectly unisex, and highly versatile for when and where one would wear it. I’m wearing it to bed as I type this review, even. This is *the* rain fragrance for me.
