Nostalgia in a Bottle
I grew up in Florida and routinely went to the beach on the weekends with my family as a kid. This perfume conjures up the sweetest nostalgic memories for me, and I imagine would for any beach lover.

It comes off strong on the first spray as a strong sunscreen/bugspray smell (gotta keep the mosquitoes away), reminiscent of piling out of the car and dousing myself in sunscreen before running shoeless across screaming hot pavement to the splintery boardwalk. After it dries down, I start to smell the sea salt and ocean water as I crest the dunes of the beach and embrace the ocean air with the ocean spread out before me. Then, as the day winds down and it's time to leave the beach, I smell the subtle blooms of jasmine and orange blossoms flanking the parking lot as we head home.

Beach search
Attention, attention, little Jasmine is looking for the beach. If he is in the vicinity, please contact us in the garden.
Well, let's wait.
First of all I have to say that I remember Bobbi's Beach very differently than I was allowed to sniff him again yesterday. I used to find it watery, clear, clean and bright. My synapses seem to have changed. Today Beach smells like a morning in the garden to me. Dewy and the flowers awaken. Jasmin stretches himself first and shakes everyone else awake. The tangerine tree wobbles and the small mandarins rub against each other and exude a herb-green, fruity scent. Neroli very weak, still tired and sleepy. Covers up immediately and complains that it was awakened much too early.
Well, the maritime notes are rushing through the garden on the express train. Huiiiii.... blue and fresh and windy and buzzing, gone again. Beach? Beach feeling? More like holiday feeling.
What remains is a sad jasmine who likes to go to the beach when there is nobody. And that's how she smells. Flowery, white and yet wonderfully summery. Different than before and still she was allowed to move in :)

Gaby Glockner
Our perception of a fragrance - and thus our preferences for first such perfumes and later other perfumes - changes in the course of our lives, perhaps more so for some than others. And even if many of the perfumes I liked when I was eighteen no longer appeal to me today, and even if I would have found some of my current favorites horrible as a student - I think it's nice that this is the case. And also, if careless formulations here in the forum sometimes lead to annoyance - there are of course fragrances where you tend to think of a young or even more mature person.

Bobbi Brown's Beach is in my perception the archetype for a young perfume, even a very young one. Apart from a warm suntan lotion accord, there's something artificial about it that I only find passable in such 'young fragrances' - and also its longevity and its 'effect on space' (to paraphrase the term 'sillage', which is sometimes used here in an inflationary way as a quality feature) are 'youthful' and 'young' in the sense of 'completely undramatic' and 'uncomplicated'. On a woman beyond thirty I would probably find it too uncharacteristic and therefore uninteresting, but on a young girl beach can be charming.

Beyond the sun milk and the artificial, which is particularly present in its top note, Beach lives from something dry and sandy-salty, but remains feminine throughout, and does not develop in the direction of unisex, as some other beach-themed fragrances do. Nor do I experience Beach as an aquatic fragrance - its fresh, let alone moist, notes are too understated - and too dominant (and I deliberately avoid the adjective 'dominant' in this rather delicate fragrance) are jasmine and something vaguely reminiscent of tuberose - and yet they don't make Beach feminine and mature, but light-footed and girlish.

Conclusion: Gaby Glockner, called 'Paw' (because she lets every dog give her paw to her), the 'G' in 'TKKG', is a policeman's daughter, blonde and blue-eyed - and 'so pretty that Tarzan sometimes can't look because he gets red. On long car journeys I still enjoy listening to the adventures of Tarzan/Tim, Karl, Klößchen and Gaby (ignoring their sometimes shockingly reactionary basic tenor) - and when it's time for Gaby to go to bed because 'this is not for young girls', it's as if a gentle breeze of Bobbi Brown's Beach was blowing from the loudspeakers. And I smile.

Salty Sea Mist, Sand and Coppertone Suntan Oil
This is the quintessential 'Coppertone' mimicking fragrance. Perfect for a tropical vacation anytime of the year. Jasmine and Neroli dominate the opening and soon an eerily accurate Suntan oil note presents itself. It will elicit a beach side scent memory for anyone who went to the beach between 1950-1980. The base of this is a delicate sea salt marine note which is not as loud and peculiar as the note in "Sel de Marin" or "Womanity", but when I inhale this deeply, it has that unmistakeable tinged of dried seaweed sunbaked onto driftwood and sea shells. When I wore this last week, my DH commented only "Hmmm, salty!". Somehow Beach manages to take me on this olfactory journey and remain an beautiful alluring casual floral scent that I always return to every year. I original bought the body soap bar which has real sea sand in it and is great for exfoliating the skin and getting a delicate base layer of this scent into the pores during a hot shower. I also bought the bath oil and this is a beautiful way to layer this fragrance to make it last up to 12 hours. Admittedly, sometimes I don't want to smell like this but I like to spritz it in the air, close my eyes, put on a recording of ocean waves and pretend my house has just been relocated to the beachfront...it totally works! Frequently, people want to know how this compares with CB I Hate Perfume's "At the Beach 1966", which I have also tested. To be honest, they are so close, but I would say Beach is slightly more jasmine-floral, marine and wearable, while I found 1966 to be truer to the chemical aspects of Coppertone Suntan lotion and sunbaked skin. I highly recommend this one for the price, it is a mini vacation in a bottle.

Salt spray, moist sand & most of all the quasi-orange blossom of sunscreen. You find yourself squinting & checking your shoes for the sand.
