Imagine someone who is wearing a brown leather jacket smoking a vanilla cigar, it's Paris Havane, the opening is citrusy and a bit animalic, i don't like it much, but the dry down, beautiful ambery tobacco with a small touch of leather, not to blind buy i recommend to sample first, the bottle is very nice with magnetic cap.

From patchouli to dog end

A patchouli-amber with pepper that soon becomes amber and a whiff of burnt cigar. Pretty basic, and badly composed - white musk appears in the middle and is somewhat out of place, and on top of that it's quiet with poor longevity. For the price I would expect more.

Sparkling soda lemon,

Paris La Havane breathes calmly on your skin,

Not everything should always be rosy!
Then, a quiet buzzing of bees,

On a Cohiba in the Buena Vista Social Club

After being completely convinced by Paris Shenandoah from this line, which I acquired for the late summer days, I wanted to try whether Carven could also impress me with Paris La Havane as an alternative winter fragrance now that the cold days of the year are approaching.

As I tend to prefer fresh scents, I often find it difficult to find winter fragrances that I don't consider too cloying-sweet-heavy, which is why I became curious at the very first glance at the fragrance pyramid of La Havane. No vanilla, no tonka bean - promising.
However, what awaited me during the test completely blew me away. Rarely has a fragrance captivated me from the very beginning like this one. A fruity-spicy, yet not sweet opening, where the mandarin can only briefly take the lead. Even here, La Havane reveals its deep, smoky character. A wonderful tobacco note that, in combination with the elemi resin, leaves a smoky-dry impression.
Not the usual sweet pipe/shisha tobacco "stuff" found in so many winter fragrances, no, rather the heavy, noble smoke of a wonderful cigar. After a short while, the leather also starts to resonate in the background, but it never becomes so dominant that one could describe La Havane as a pure leather scent. The only subtly present notes of lavender (and rose - I couldn't really perceive them) support the gentle transition from the fading tobacco to the leather, which plays the main role for several hours, while the smoky note never completely disappears. Only after about eight hours does the leather start to fade a bit and reveals a soft, ambered base note that allows the fragrance to pleasantly fade out.

The longevity of the fragrance is, even with a sparing dosage, enormous at least for me. If you want to get rid of it before the end of the day, you might need some scouring milk and a hug. Although it is by no means overpowering, the sillage is decent, and the fragrance is clearly noticeable from a distance.

In any case, I have found a winter favorite that truly transports me mentally to Havana. There I sit, when I close my eyes, in deep leather armchairs with a Cohiba in the Social Club in Buena Vista, listening to Compay Segundo and Ibrahim Ferrer.

In the back of a luxury limousine...

I tested this fragrance and the brand for the first time, even though this house has been producing perfumes since the 1950s.

In a smaller perfumery, where mainly the usual designers are present, the saleswoman showed me the new collection from Carven.

For this season, I had already chosen another scent from the series and took it with me.
She gave me a sample of La Havane. I tested it in the car and immediately decided to exchange it.

Why?

On the test strip, the quality of La Havane does not fully develop to my taste.

On the skin, it is an olfactory experience, and the transformation of the fragrance makes me appreciate it more and more.

The opening belongs to tobacco. Strong, it reminds me of high-quality cigars. Alongside, a fruity sweet mandarin floats through the gravity of the tobacco.

This is followed by a gentle introduction of leather, which combines well with the woody Elimi and the tobacco.

While Tom Ford's "Ombré Leather" fits like a second skin, here it feels more like the leather sofa in the foyer of the Oval Office.

I know that luxury car brands enhance their interiors with artificial scents.
I immediately think of my butler holding the door of the new Rolls Royce open to chauffeur me to the horse races.

After about 20 - 30 minutes of driving without being stuck in traffic, mind you, the journey takes a good 5-7 hours, I notice the deep longevity of the amber.
It is wonderfully cozy in the back of the luxury limousine with La Havane.
The sillage is not too strong, but allows for closeness. It still reaches beyond the minimum distance to draw attention.

Regarding the bottle:

The cap fits magnetically and finds its place on its own.
Octagonal and distinctive, it feels good in the hand. The chrome spray head is easy to use.
The mixture resembles the deep brown color of 2-3 year old thick rum.

For me, at €165 for 125ml, it is definitely worth its price.
I have already worn it in spring, during the still cool morning temperatures.

A good companion, as I feel comfortable with this scent.
