Salty-Aquatic Saffron Fragrance
After the reviews of Rocca & Inspirato, I naturally have to report on my 3rd Provenzano that I treated myself to: Onda de Mar. The brand by perfumer Christian Provenzano is really good, as you can expect a lot from the original creations of perfumers. I also enjoy his many works for Sospiro. He simply knows what he's doing, and it's great that you mostly get fragrances with real power and longevity. What can one expect from this "sea wave"? Of course, a very summery aquatic, which, however, gets a rather acquired taste addition with saffron. It definitely smells very special and could serve as an alternative to Megamare. Not that they are similar in DNA, but the loud and bold DNA goes in a similar direction. Overall, a great fragrance that makes you want to bring some variety into the usual summer DNAs.
In terms of price, the fragrance is quite expensive with a recommended retail price of €289 for 100ml, but it is not overpriced compared to other niche brands. Additionally, you occasionally get a really big discount of one third. The packaging and bottle are truly stunning with this beautiful green tone and the great cap. The packaging also looks luxurious.
With Onda de Mar, the focus is on a salty aquatic that runs through the entire fragrance development. You definitely have to be able to handle salty notes. I like salty aquatics, and they usually go down well with others. It gets creative when the saffron comes in. Aquatic & saffron? Sounds like an acquired taste, but it fits and gives this fragrance a very special vibe. The saffron is not too oriental, but offers a wonderful spiciness that harmonizes with the other fresh notes. A dark, fruity, berry-like cassis note also comes into play. Fresh, fruity, citrus notes of bergamot, grapefruit, and orange add a bit of lightness and perfectly create the wonderful summer atmosphere. Not listed here is pineapple: This note is definitely included and harmonizes wonderfully with the saffron note. Seaweed also adds further aquatic-green notes that fit perfectly with the salty aquatic. In the heart, slightly floral notes come in that make the fragrance soft and gentle. The base is very aromatic with soft sandalwood, clean light musk, light moss, warm amber, and also a bit of sweetness from caramel. The base is pleasantly sweet and warm, yet still suitable for summer. I really like it, and it's a great choice when it's not too hot or humid. The fragrance is unique through and through, and I haven't smelled anything quite like it before. The fragrance is unisex, but it could be a bit more popular among men due to the saffron note and the salty aquatic. Overall, this composition is suitable for both genders.
Performance is absolutely top-notch, and this is an extrait with longevity, and the sillage has real power in the first hours. For summer, it might even be too much due to the saffron note. In the height of summer, it would be more suitable for outdoor activities. Otherwise, it's a great fragrance that works well throughout the year.
You should definitely test it if you like saffron, pineapple, and a salty aquatic. Once again, really well done by Christian Provenzano. Very unique, and with the extrait, you also have fun with the longevity.
