Still Life
I had previously written a review of this fragrance, but the scent left me so undecided that I deleted it. I went back, smelled it again, re-tested, thought it over… I probably should have just edited my first impressions, but never mind.
Palazzo opens with great charm: fresh, fruity, almost aquatic. At first, it even called to mind a watery fruit, like melon.
Yet within seconds, that brightness turns into something reminiscent of fresh paint, distinctly unpleasant. For the next 30 to 40 minutes, this paint-like accord wavers in and out, fading, reappearing, and fading again. That was the start of my dilemma.
After those 30 to 40 minutes, however, it vanishes completely. The fragrance grows denser, more enveloping, sweeter, more floral, while still retaining a green, fresh, aquatic character. And in that moment, I find myself conceding that yes, it is beautiful.
Nevertheless, I stand by this: a fragrance priced at €289 feels far too expensive, especially when one has to endure such an unpleasant phase for so long.
