Hello everyone,
Yes, I promised that I would write the review this weekend and here it is, but beware, it might be a bit longer!
EDP vs. Extrait:
I tested the EDP quite often - why? I found it somehow beautiful and also almost unique, BUT in the end it was too sweet for me (peach, saffron) and too generic, lacking edges and character, and too little tobacco. Shortly after the release, I tested it by chance - why? I had a very small sample as a bonus here in the souk (max. 0.6ml) and I was captivated.
To test it for days (like now), I was missing the quantity, and yes, I FELL IN LOVE with the scent and found one here in the souk with about 82% fill level - bought.
I didn't really know how it performed or what exactly the performance said.... I saw (to be honest) the reviews here, but when you have (back then) under 10 reviews, I find it very difficult to take that as a reliable reference...
And I told myself if it was at least on the level of the EDP, everything would be cool!
Performance (H/S):
It was very different from the normal
Triumph of Bacchus Eau de Parfum, which was good and the sillage was pleasant and yes, it was also very well received..., but the
Triumph of Bacchus Extrait de Parfum really outperforms the EDP more than subtly...
I find the sillage to be extremely good (really!) it is almost on the level of
Oud Satin Mood Extrait de Parfum or
Nefs and those who know both know very well what kind of sillage monsters they are. So subtle is different!
As for longevity - it varies with temperatures, BUT it is ALWAYS in the range of 12h to 16h. Still, I don't want to give a 10/10 here, but only (!) a 9/10, as I also know 24h fragrances and I personally only give a 10/10 starting from 20h.
Do you need it?
Ultimately, it's very humble to answer. If you already have the EDP, then NO, not necessarily. However, if you don't have it and are into this fragrance direction (like I am), then I would say YES! I am a big fan of
Vanille Havane Eau de Parfum and if you know that and take
Red Tobacco along with the regular EDP, the
Triumph of Bacchus Eau de Parfum, then you indirectly have the scent!
Comparisons to
Carlisle and
Herod, justified?
I'll put it this way, some know my LOVE for PDM (whether it's my reviews of many scents or my blog entry - recommendation) and know why I have slowly turned my back on the house.... - it's the batches (among other things) and YES, another reason is the
Triumph of Bacchus Extrait de Parfum!
Why?
For me, it is a fusion of
Carlisle,
Herod, and
Triumph of Bacchus Extrait de Parfum and I am so incredibly satisfied with the combo that I have given both away! This smoky and creamy sweetness combined with the special aura that surrounds you creates something..., I find it hard to put into words...
I have worn it 4 times at work, 2 times on the weekend (outdoors, restaurant, for example) and I haven't had a fragrance with which I have received so much resonance (no joke!).
Are you the best release of 2023?
It's always very difficult to say if something is THE BEST. For me, yes! We had some very usable new fragrances in 2023, such as
Althaïr, "Erba Gold | XerJoff",
Le Mâle Elixir, etc. and yes, those are good and there's no question about that, but for me, the
Triumph of Bacchus Extrait de Parfum is the best so far for the year 2023!
In summary, I can say - it is a masterpiece and this on the edge of a beast, extremely high-quality tuned, perfectly unisex wearable (tending male), noble and a wearable creamy, smoky gourmand from September to May (or on summer evenings too) - my recommendation!
Just a quick note on the topic of packaging, bottle, sprayer:
I'll keep it short 10 out of 10 in every category and I know very well that tastes are very different. Anyone who doesn't rate (of the 3 things) with a 9 or 10 "HE MUST HAVE RAN FULL SPEED INTO THE FRIDGE", so honestly, leather packaging, full metal cap, great timeless bottle design.... so I find it very hard to rate it differently and I say this not because I like or dislike a brand!
And now, almost finally, regarding the "lovely price", I’ll put it this way: if we say we have a certain desire for luxury products / fragrance products in the niche area, then I find it difficult or honestly almost pointless to criticize this as something negative. No one forces us to spend this. If you ask me now: Benny, is it WORTH it? Then I say, if you want to spend it, test and buy it then, but I recommend everyone to test it at least once! You just have to experience it - the art of what is possible / can be.
Now to the topic of luxury:
As you can partially see in my profile, I have really smelled many fragrances and there are fragrances where you smell a certain (partly) strong synthetic scent and you quickly notice that some fragrance houses focus more on quantity than quality and there are some where you realize "oh come on, let's put in more + better" and you can smell that at the end of the day and at the end of the chain stands the
Triumph of Bacchus Extrait de Parfum - but when I say here you notice the quality, then it doesn't even come close to doing it justice.
My personal opinion (!), this level is something you have to achieve first. Can there be more luxury? I don't know, it will definitely be hard - when it comes to LUXURY, this feeling is the BENCHMARK!
(In the creamy soft, slightly sweet and smoky area)
Now a brief note on my opinion:
I am not sponsored, influenced by anyone, receiving money or anything else. I approach the topic of perfume as I am, honestly, everything else is not my style. My true personal opinion is very VALUABLE to me and I hope maybe ;) that you can notice this too. If I don't like something, such as packaging, bottle, sprayer, or H/S, I will communicate that too!
Best regards, Benny ;)
