A Round Thing - Not Just the Bottle
Ramón Béjar is no newcomer to the perfume business. Béjar Signature s.l. was founded back in 1980. He initially created fragrances for the Spanish and French markets and was internationally better known under the luxury brand Ramon Molvizar. Molvizar is the name of the small town in southern Andalusia where Ramón Béjar was born. Earlier this year, he sold this brand and now offers his fragrances under the brand named after him, Béjar Signature.
Here, it is primarily the "Cuarzo the Circle" line, which includes Gold Seed, and RB Ramón Béjar - fragrances that are being launched this year.
When I discovered Béjar, I was also unfamiliar with the brand and purchased "Andaluz" as my first fragrance. I simply wanted to know what class of fragrances I was dealing with, and I admit, I got more than I expected. I was already impressed by the craftsmanship, quality, and presentation of the first fragrance.
With Cuarzo the Circle, we are talking about high-priced fragrances, and I naturally expect corresponding quality here. Due to the high purchase prices for blind buys, it is rather unsuitable, so I bought samples of all Cuarzo the Circle and the new RB fragrances from Béjar - a total of 24 pieces. They arrived today, and we all know it - curiosity is one of the main driving forces among us perfume lovers. So, I immediately fished out a fragrance at random from the 24 samples and sprayed it.
It is Gold Seed (Goldsamen or Gold Nugget), and I am more than surprised by the outstanding quality and the interesting and imaginative composition of the fragrance.
It is not very often that one can perceive what is listed in the fragrance pyramid in a scent. However, the top note of Gold Seed corresponds exactly to the listed components, and all three are very well perceptible, with the flower of the rockrose being accompanied by bergamot and clove.
The top note does not completely disappear but carries the heart note, providing an incredible softness and creaminess in which the flowers can unfold. This also keeps the powderiness in check, making the fragrance feel more dry silky than powdery.
It is a great perfumer's art to weave jasmine together with other fragrance components in such a way that it neither plays the lead role nor stands out unpleasantly with piercing or scratchy notes. The heart note achieves the velvetiness of ylang without conveying its dark, heavy, and sweet note.
On the contrary, Gold Seed is consistently bright and yet soft, silky-velvety. The base also holds back elegantly, no vanilla that reminds one of liqueur or pastries, no patchouli that makes one feel like sitting in a basement. Just a subtle, elegant sweetness and - the salt in the soup - a very gentle resinous quality of labdanum that rounds off the entire composition.
Gold itself does not have a scent, but if it did, it would have to smell just like this perfume! A perfect creation and a wonderful example of excellent perfumer's art.
That each bottle contains a tiny gold nugget (Goldsamen) and three diamonds is hardly of importance. However, it emphasizes the high quality of this perfume.
Ramón Béjar - we should remember this name. It seems there are truly treasures here waiting to be discovered by us.
