The Three Greats - Sapphire
Alongside aquamarines and colored diamonds, rainbow sapphires (that’s what we call the colored sapphires) are my favorite gemstones. In nature, they occur in significantly fewer colors. Most sapphires found are colorless, followed by pink, green, yellow, of course blue, and the wonderful orange-red-pink padparadscha sapphires.
However, sapphires are often treated to either enhance or completely change their color. This is how red, royal blue, deep green, among others, sapphires come about. In cut form, sapphires develop a similar fire to diamonds, and they are the hardest gemstones on Earth after diamonds.
Like most of us, Ramón Béjar probably thought of blue sapphires when creating this fragrance, as the scent showcases many facets of blue.
Upon spraying, a beautiful vetiver grass cloud greeted me. Slightly sweet and wonderfully bright green-blue. This green-blue transitions into a spicy note, and I would think of a strong royal blue here.
Gradually, it becomes slightly animalistic, smoky, and a distinct oud note, which is still not dominant, is perceptible. The fragrance evolves into a voluminous smoky blue, powdery and soft, and exceptionally pleasant.
This smoky blue transitions into a soft night blue with hints of turquoise and dove blue and slowly becomes green-blue again, but now significantly darker than at the beginning. The base is calm and slightly animalistic, with hardly any woodiness or resinous notes, just this tranquil green-blue scent reminiscent of moss and nighttime nature.
The fragrance Sapphire does justice to the gemstone sapphire in every respect; it is a noble, multifaceted scent for both genders that serves as a perfect companion for most occasions.
The current pyramid of Béjar Signature is:
Top: Italian tangerine, pink pepper
Heart: amber, vetiver, incense
Base: green moss, musk, cedar
What I like most about this fragrance is the interplay of the different scent notes, especially the incredibly beautiful vetiver opening. It’s almost as if I am looking at a rainbow sapphire ring in the sun, with the different colors flashing depending on my hand movements and showing ever-changing tones.
