The sixteen-wheeler feminine fragrance
Almost 90 years went by since this perfume was released by Dana. The XX century the early '30s were quite crazy all over the world. Strong scents were in fashion and Tabu was probably the strongest of them all.
Even still today Tabu is a landmark and a synonym of a strong and intrusive fragrance. Subtlety and discretion are not its characteristics at all. Performance is beasty. You may expect always more than 12 hours of longevity - up to 24 hours depending on your skin chemistry - and its sillage fills a room. Does it project well?... oh yes, it does projects like the hose of a fireman.
This is the kind of love/hate scent. I do love it as a collector. I like to smell it on paper strips and in the back of my hand or my wife's hand. I do not like to smell it as a fragrance to last all day and night on women, and even less on men. It just overrides all other fragrances.
Globally its scent is very pleasant for me, but it's not a piece of cake to feel the same strong intrusive perfume for an entire day.
This oriental perfume opens with a heavy load of spices, followed by cloves and some floral notes. in the bottom notes, you get an animalistic woody balsamic amber with strong musk and patchouli, with some sweetness in the background.
To what can it be compared? Well just picture a situation where you are expecting to drive a fast big car and you receive 5 tons 1000 HP sixteen-wheeler instead.
Yes... this is strong stuff... probably the strongest fragrance in my collection.
I bought the violin bottle. It's kind of tacky but I like it.
In summary in my opinion TABU is a very good feminine vintage fragrance. I do like to test it and even like women to wear it provided they DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN 1 SPRAY. Also, use it only in cold weather. If you use it in a hot club, you will allow a stampede disaster.
Do I recommend it? Oh yes, absolutely! Everybody who loves fragrances and has never tried TABU is just like living in Rome and never having seen the Pope. On top of it, it's quite inexpensive! .... (I mean the perfume, not the Pope).
TABU also reminds me of the Hollywood stereotype of voluptuous women at night, with nice clothes and lots of makeup.
I give it a global rate of 8.25 / 10.00

- bigger than 9 = don't miss it;
Advice: This perfume may be cloying to a lot of people. Try before you buy.
