"krautig, würzig" - no...
I recently searched the forum for a masculine, herbal, unsweetened lavender scent, and when I read the short description "krautig, würzig" for Harry Lehmann's "Lavendelblüte," I had to jump at it immediately. Well...

"Lavendelblüte" initially opens for me with a bright, flat, one-dimensional, slightly watery lavender note (nota bene: this is the EdP and not the EdC "Lavendelwasser"...), in a strange isolated form, and with a slight fatal sweetness that for some reason reminds me of sweet, overcooked baked apples or apple pie...

However, this flat opening phase doesn't last long; the sweetness soon fades, and silvery-dark and slightly spicy notes join in. A floral accord with geranium, rose, and violet supports the floral character, coumarin and cloves add some greenery and spice, and towards the base, oak moss provides some of the long-missed body.

Nevertheless, even in this fuller, rounder, yet rather laboriously assembled form, the lavender blossom still feels strangely sterile, somehow artificial, and not really all that interesting... Well, I admit that the scent is quite restrictively named "Lavendelblüte" and not "The whole lavender bush with flowers and gnarled branches and roots" or something like that. But "krautig, würzig"...? No...

Unusual Combination
Under the name Lavender Blossom, I expected a rather classic lavender water, so to speak, lavender itself! Upon spraying, this seems to be confirmed, as I smell lavender in a quite pure form.

Lavender does not seem to be very persistent, and in this perfume, it primarily shapes the top note. Soon, it recedes a bit and reveals the heart and base notes. And that is indeed a surprise. At first, I smell something dry and woody, but then I sense a slight gasoline-like, almost tar-like note, similar to what is characteristic of Le Male, Skulpture pour Homme, or Body Kouros. However, in a much more subtle variant.

After all, the similarity is there. A look at the fragrance pyramid of Le Male reveals that lavender is also included! So, comparison test: left hand Lavender Blossom, right hand Le Male. OK, Lavender Blossom is much, much subtler than Le Male. It remains much more restrained and has far less spiciness than Le Male. And it stays drier; the emphasized sweetness that is characteristic of Le Male is missing. Le Male is opulent, Lavender Blossom is subtle. However, the base is a bit darker than in Le Male, leaning more towards a lignite-like direction.

I find this Lavender Blossom original, as I did not expect this combination. Personally, the lavender fades away a bit too quickly in favor of the gasoline-like base note, so unfortunately, this perfume does not quite deliver what it promises. I must note, however, that I cannot perceive lavender well, especially when it appears in a strong environment. It may be that others experience it longer.

French Lavender Honey
In the initial phase, the lavender is beautifully present and quite true to nature. I look forward to the scent development and am curious about which notes will carry the lavender, preparing myself for a little guessing game, as unfortunately, there are no publications regarding the fragrance notes of Lehmann perfumes.
But what hits my nose shortly after surprises me, as this is the last thing I expected. Honey! I am quite sure of that, as I love honey and have tested many varieties throughout my life. Coincidentally, there is lavender flower honey, which is among the more expensive types of honey. So this combination is not far-fetched. The more I sniff the scent, the more present the imaginary honey bread becomes before my eyes. In the background, there is something slightly herbal, but it does not come through on my skin at all. I find myself again navigating through the imaginary herb garden in my mind, trying to remember which herb I still smell here. It could be a hint of mild mint, or thyme, or sage, or all three at once.
As time goes by, the scent becomes more syrupy. Now thyme honey comes to mind, which is often consumed during colds.

As much as I like the concept of Lehmann fragrances, "Lavender Blossom" unfortunately does not score any points with me, as the lavender is overwhelmed by the herbal honey and is so fleeting that it really disappoints me. Additionally, the longevity is not exactly impressive overall.

What a shame, what a shame, because I love lavender, but I do not like to take herbal honey for a walk.

P.S: Thank you, Apicius, for the sample.

Lavender with Sweetness
Lavender Blossom starts with a distinctly authentic lavender flower note - not the dried stuff in a sachet, but a blooming, blue-purple lavender field in southern France. However, the authentic lavender scent is limited to the top note: soon sweet notes join in, mixing with the lavender and at times even overshadowing it. I can definitely relate to Eternity's honey impression. However, I believe that the sweet, honey-like note is not a honey note, but is created through a combination of floral-sweet notes. I suspect honeysuckle, rose, and iris. It's a pity that Harry Lehmann apparently does not provide any information about the notes contained.

In any case, the lavender is quite overshadowed by the sweetness - no matter where it comes from - for quite some time. Only towards the base does it become more noticeable again. Since a bright wood note also appears (I too believe I can clearly identify cedar here), "Lavender Blossom" is less sweet in the base than in the heart note.

Lavender Blossom is, on one hand, an original lavender scent that feels very natural, especially at the beginning. On the other hand, I find the scent progression - especially the overly sweet middle part - somewhat uneven and inconsistent.

Thanks to ET and Apicius for the sample! I find the Lehmann company very interesting and will definitely visit the shop when I'm in Berlin again!

Lavender Scent 1/3
Part one of the lavender trilogy.

Lavender is clearly in the spotlight.

The three fragrances all have similarities. The lavender is always at the center.
However, the lavender is presented differently each time. In this case, it is a very sweet, floral lavender.
The title is well executed.

The lavender almost floats away with lightness.
Only the sweetness, which is sometimes unpleasant to me, keeps it grounded.

For me, an unusual lavender. Great at first, then a sweet-spicy, amber base note that I don't like 100%. The top note is misleading!

Lavender, spicy, with a citrus twist & a hint of violet powder, starts cool (minty geranium), ends warm (tonka, a hint of tobacco). Skillfully done.

Classic lavender stuff. First fresh, then sweet. Men used to smell like this. Aftershave. Lavender sachets fit somehow.

First fresh crushed lavender flowers, then spicy lavender honey, then "aftershave." Still noticeable for a long time, but only faintly sweet.

Finally, a lavender scent that lasts! A bit ethereal, later it becomes herbally spicy with lavender blossom, and it totally relaxes me:-)

A strangely old-fashioned and not very authentic lavender without green herbiness, but still worth its (low) price.
