Oriental Dsquared
Great fragrance. Very different from other releases of the same house, Silver Wind Wood is more an oriental fragrance with lots of incense, vanilla and some woods.

Remembers me of Armand Basi Silver Nature.

Sillage, lasting power and projection are high. Definetely a must try!

Boulder, CO
We drove down Interstate 25 from the north - from Casper in Wyoming, where we had spent the last night in a godforsaken motel. We had slept many nights in similar motels on our journey through the Badlands and the Black Hills of South Dakota and the endless expanse of the Thunder Basins. We had seen Mount Rushmore and listened to wild buffalo breathing - and eaten giant steaks in a restaurant where we were the only ones without cowboy hats and guns, making us look the most out of place. Thus, we crossed the city limits of Boulder.

Boulder - at the foot of the mountains and already in sight of the metropolis of Denver - is a friendly city with a brick center and a lovely pedestrian zone. Here, you can find organic chai lattes and vegan oatmeal muffins - and since the state of Colorado was the first to decriminalize marijuana consumption, many young (and not-so-young) people sit smoking on the lawns and making music. A bit of Kollwitzkiez - just a few hours south of Wyoming, and the first contact with civilization after days filled with buffalo breath and steaks with Sarah Palin look-alikes.

Dsquared²'s He Wood Silver Wind Wood reminds me of that drive down the mountain slopes to Boulder, Colorado. It has a very nice, cool bitterness (the sage) - with something truly gusty about it - followed by a green-gray roughness (frankincense and vetiver) and sweetness, yet surprisingly lacking warmth - despite the musk, vanilla, and spices. It still carries a final memory of the wilderness - miles and miles of just trees (or not even those) - and yet it is tamed, restrained, captured in a glass cube and black wood. And it also has a hint of marijuana.

What is to be lamented, however - and these are attributes that usually hardly bother me - are its sillage and longevity. Even with its brothers Rocky Mountain Wood and Ocean Wet Wood, I noted a certain thinness - they also run out of steam quite quickly. There are wonderful soft, very subtle fragrances that are clearly designed to be close to the body and intimate. Dsquared²'s wood scents, however, seem simply not well made in this regard, which is very disappointing - as they are fundamentally beautiful, this one included. But we were only in Boulder for a day.

Conclusion: a herb-fresh scent that tells of silver mountains and buffaloes. And of vegan oatmeal muffins - lying on a lawn in Boulder - with nothing but sky above us.

Those presumed dead live longer!
What Daphné Bugey creates for the He Wood series is always interesting. The woman knows her craft, and she proves it with the latest release from Dsquared. However, I only arrive at this judgment upon closer inspection, as Silver Wind Wood is actually quite hideous.

The fragrance starts with a strange fruitiness and floral hints. I had the thought of dried fruits with a lot of cinnamon! Cinnamon is not listed at all - it may be that I am falling for an illusion. In any case, I perceive the opening as spicy-gourmand!

The surprise works - a nice gimmick - but what comes next? I read here mainly musk and vanilla, and I smell that variant of musk that has that gasoline-like, sweet, earthy touch - if it is even musk at all. That is quite surprising. Only the best representatives of their kind - Le Mâle, Fleur du Mâle, Body Kouros - have managed to hold their ground. The majority of the variants that address this now really overused fragrance direction are found in the drugstore market. One cannot accuse Dsquared of lacking courage here. While Dsquared tried to play at the top with the predecessor fragrances Ocean Wet Wood and Rocky Mountain Wood and truly shape current trends, with the new Silver Wind Wood, they are now starting from a certain low point.

This is a dangerous path, and the question arises as to what justifies the higher price of Silver Wind Wood? Well, it becomes really interesting after half an hour. By then, the fragrance base has been reached. Here we have that sweet gasoline-vanilla accord in full breadth, but also - and this is quite new - a very subdued aquatic, somewhat cucumber- or melon-like, perhaps even herbal note that keeps it in check. An extraordinary contrast that doesn't let go of you easily. It feels very alive, and at least I am torn. On one hand - this cheap Le Mâle accord - that just doesn't work! On the other hand: the aquatic-herbal components make it a completely new and independent experience. With Silver Wind Wood, Ms. Bugey demonstrates her ability to revamp an old hat.

Thus, Silver Wind Wood is definitely a perfume that one can engage with as a fragrance lover. Both main components of the base are already quite demanding on their own: they create a tension between opulence and freshness. A bit of amber should be mentioned: in my impression, it provides a subdued smokiness and a rather dark style. Silver Wind Wood is, in my perception, anything but a trivial, sweet drugstore scent that one can wear casually. Will this bold experiment pay off?

In the Flow of (Personal) Time?
Finally, I’m writing a comment about one of my favorite fragrances from back then. "He Wood Silver Wind Wood" by Dsquared has often been included as a sample in various perfume shops. I always found it good.
Now I noticed that I haven't written a comment about this scent at all.

So what should I say after a thorough test? At one point, I gave it 80% because it fascinated me time and again. But now, after closer examination, I’ve lowered it to 70%.

The problem lies in the base. But more on that later...

HWSWW starts with a vanilla accord that is very sweet, even though it is listed in the base here. Deliciously gourmand. Then it gets even better. A dark vetiver wood scent now envelops the vanilla. And that is truly wonderful, and exactly what I can remember. That’s precisely why I wanted to get it. The base also continues to consist of these notes, but... now comes the negative turning point!

Something aquatic overlays all the beautiful notes, which does not fit the overall picture at all. I also can’t remember noticing this back then. Did the sample go bad? I can hardly imagine that, as the beginning was just like it was back then and everything seemed to fit.

Thus, I have to lower the 80% to 70%.

Bear Fur Cuddle Area, Grown in the Damp Forest....
...or Bark Brown and Sea Blue. Two "regions" play a role here: The forest and the sea.
And sometimes forests are close to the sea, almost covering the coasts.
And maybe there are bears there too!?.... possible.
And the latter have grown up in the forest and have thick fur. This looks cuddly and soft at first glance, but when you touch it (better not try it on a living animal), I can imagine that this "softness" is limited to the underfur, and the "surface" feels slightly rough..(like with some dogs).
And what does this have to do with the fragrance "Silver Wind Wood" by Dsquared2?
Well... that’s exactly how it smells to me.
At first impression, a kind of "sea breeze" is in the foreground, evoking thoughts of an aquatic "companion." But deeper inside, I move towards a forest that is initially bright and light and becomes denser and more impassable with the path. Tall cedars alternate with robust amber trees. In the background, some hills hide bears, with the described "fur."
"Silver Wind Wood" has a soft appearance with a decidedly "rough" core. From airy and fine-woody to "barky" and rough.
A resinous component eventually joins in, which "binds" the fragrance...
Frankincense, which finally smooths the "fur" and brings it closer to the "delicate" appearance.
A scent that suits not only the "hairier" gender...

Good mix of subtle vanilla, soft smoke and woody notes with distinctive spiciness (sage, nutmeg). Dark, slightly earthy and misty.

Office Wood: aquatic, woody, spicy, 0850. Better than 0815, like a better shower gel from the 90s. Woody-spicy like salted IKEA particle board.

Smells rather unexciting like cooked rice, lavender, powdery, and sweet - just like mother-in-law's favorite.

Not the best HE WOOD! Atypical!
It starts off well, sweet and spicy - but then ends up like Body Kouros!
I wonder where the wood is??

A delicate yet long-lasting woody-sweet veil, almost soapy-clean in the drydown, like freshly washed elven skin. Not for lumberjacks.

Great sweet woody scent of the darker kind (frankincense) with very good longevity and sillage! Unbeatable for the price!
