A worthy successor...
My first review, so please be forgiving :)
For 3 years, I have been dealing with niche and mainstream fragrances. And since then, I have been waiting for the scent that I should, may, must write the first review about...
I think this is a fitting occasion:
Rocky Mountain Wood by Dsquared² was the first fragrance that people kept asking me about, the first compliments I received, and it moved me to engage intensively with fragrances.
I have tried a lot since then and received many other compliments for other scents, but I still couldn't shake off the first compliment "You smell incredibly good!"
That's why this "offshoot" should be my first review!
Bought blind! After some misfires (ocean wet wood, he wood cologne, etc. - both not great), I wanted to take the risk one more time because I just loved Dsquared². So I bought it.
First sprays: Wow... it's incredibly close to Rocky Mountain Wood! Thousands of memories, compliments, etc. rushed into my mind. To be honest, I have to say that the difference between mainstream and niche immediately struck me. Still... the uniqueness that Rocky Mountain Wood had back then was back. But: somehow more mature... The opening is very citrusy, almost piercing. But only for a few minutes. Then the beautiful warm wood comes in immediately, paired with fir and resin, always in combination with a freshness that (thankfully) doesn't remind me of shower gel. In fact, it's very synthetic, which is often rated negatively here. I'm not quite sure about that because: smells good = smells good. But maybe I haven't been in this long enough. ;)
Unfortunately, it is very linear in development, but that doesn't bother me if you like the "base scent." Resin, fir, freshness. I honestly find the sillage and longevity above average for the price!
Conclusion: If you have no problem with synthetics and are looking for something extraordinary, this is the right choice!
