Was there something?
I have been asking myself this question just two hours after the test... But let's start from the beginning.

The name promises a lot. I like absinthe as a fragrance note, but unfortunately, it is not often executed really well. During the test, however, I don't necessarily smell absinthe, maybe just subtly. "L'òme" smells wonderfully green-bitter, fresh-spicy, grassy-earthy, and a bit boozy. I suspect vetiver, perhaps also juniper, definitely gin. I can't identify vermouth as a fragrance note.

A fantastic scent is offered to me here! Unfortunately, this is countered by a barely noticeable longevity. "L'òme" becomes very close to the skin quickly and is hardly perceptible on my skin after two hours. I find this very unfortunate, as this scent has a lot of potential, even despite the lack of development.

Lavender and Vetiver - Wormwood's Partner?
That's what I believe I can recognize. Since the company keeps a secret about the ingredients (except for wormwood), I want to test my intuition like in a wine blind tasting.

Below it says - a "hardware store" perfume. Given that, it must be clearly stated that it smells noticeably better than one would expect from such a retail location.

"L´òme" is coherently composed; the opening immediately offers an intense lavender note, which perhaps gains a slightly spicier touch from a hint of rosemary(?).

After about 10 minutes, a more prominent vetiver note begins to emerge, with a grassy-earthy spectrum, not very sweet. The aforementioned wormwood also appears in a slightly bitter, rather dry-plant-oriented style.

Overall, the fragrance remains in its evolution within a green-spicy, somewhat mineral spectrum with a slight earthy undertone.

One can tell that no particularly renowned perfumer was at work here, as evidenced by the generally rather narrow development, which offers little surprise and can indeed feel somewhat monotonous over time, occasionally becoming a bit annoying in its strict green lavender-herb arrangement.

Quality from the DIY Store!
A well-stocked DIY store is a fine thing - it's fun to browse, and some products are better than comparable ones from the supermarket. Today I discovered Durance en Provence, in the bathroom and sanitary department! They fit right in there, as they make all sorts of room fragrances and cosmetic products. Among shower gels and scented candles, there was the men's line "L'òme," which offers several waters labeled as Eau de Toilette.

While they have no competition there, they certainly don’t need to hide. For €27.95 /100 ml, you get simple but still pleasant scented waters. The existence of an "Absinthe Epicée" in this category is certainly intriguing - such a cult note is usually more the domain of niche perfumery. Anyone who has experienced "Skarb" by Humicki & Graef knows how bitter and intense this note can be explored - if there is a corresponding artistic ambition behind it.

Of course, a DIY store perfume is far from that - here you can expect something more agreeable. In fact, Absinthe Epicée is a friendly scent despite the expected bitterness. The bitterness is quite limited, balanced by a hard-to-describe sweet note. There is very little citrus, a very light floral accord in the top notes, and perhaps a cedarwood-like note as another ingredient. It's fun and stimulates the buying instinct - I just had to have it.

I find it pleasing that Absinthe Epicée has neither a synthetic quality nor the often encountered scratchiness of cheap perfumes. It stands out positively from many similarly priced competitors. You do have to make concessions regarding longevity. The scent fades very quickly and is then only perceptible in remnants directly on the skin. Elsewhere, such fragrances might be more honestly labeled Eau de Cologne.

In style and impression, Durance en Provence seems to approach brands like L'Occitane or Yves Rocher a bit, just without a franchise concept. It's always worth a look in this segment.

Absinthe Epicée is an exceptionally nice little water. It offers a brief, pleasant feel-good effect. This absinthe is so subtle that it spares us a deeper engagement. A great scent for the in-between times!

Eau de Toilette with Wormwood Extract
The fragrance certainly contains other notes besides just wormwood. However, the Durance website remains silent about additional fragrance notes. Wormwood extract is included, though.
On the website, the scent is described as "mystical, woody-sweet, aromatic, seductive." I do not find this fragrance to be mystical or seductive. To me, it is a citrus-fresh (but not piercing), aromatic, slightly sweet, and very subtle scent. Later on, it becomes a bit bitter. Despite the citrus freshness, it is not necessarily a citrus fragrance. I can barely detect any wood notes. The scent quickly settles onto the skin but remains perceivable there for several hours (though only up close). In my opinion, it is definitely office-appropriate.

Men's stuff. Aftershave. Green-fresh. Reminds me of valerian at first. The cats will like me.

As exciting as the ingredient is, the result is quite mundane: As usual with Durance, a solid woody scent with an accent (absinthe) and a subtle aura.

Pale, strong green & herb. Summer can be without citrus and aquatic notes. A quiet winner. Unfortunately, it’s also very short-lived.

Extremely appealing, delicious absinthe scent! Sweet-green with a pleasantly fresh vibe. A bit subtle, so spray it on again now and then. Great!

Basically an excellent fresh-green summer scent, but it really falls short in sillage and longevity.
