faded glamour
when i first tried this, way back a few years ago now, i honestly thought this kind of stank. i couldn't really identify anything from it besides the overall feeling that i didn't want it on my skin, and thus tried to wash it off and forget about it completely. trying it now, however, (curiosity will kill me eventually) i can at least pull it apart and identify / appreciate what i'm smelling, be that down to a wider appreciation of fragrances in general, the passing of time, some weird post-covid trickery; who knows.

i actually enjoy this now quite a lot. a waxy neroli with sparkly aldehydes open on first spray (the aldehydes in particular i find actually last quite a long while into the development of the perfume) that are almost immediately brought into orbit around a dusty, beautiful jasmine, dried and almost leathery in nature. i don't really pick up on anything animalic, per se, but i rarely ever do in so-called 'animalic perfumes'. this brings to mind instead a sort of faded glamour more than anything; a sparkling high that illuminates dust-filled, boarded off rooms that once held the grandest of soirees. you would find this perfume in a bottle there.

the base settles more into a spiced, peppery, even a little incense or stale cigarette-smoke-like musk, retaining the leathery nature found in the mid. without the light of the aldehydes (smelled from a distance they're still there - but close to skin they disappear) it becomes subsumed in a deep brown, grey and black darkness. now it does actually remind me of a vintage perfume i'm sure i tried in the past, but i cannot put a name to it. overall i'm glad i returned to this to try it. not entirely sure it's a love, yet, but it's a strong like for sure.

Ma Bêtch
"A fierce beast with raunchy elegance", according to Antoine Lie himself.

The 'beastly' musks here are functional and support the overall suggestion of a vintage fur coat, boudoir style. I get a sense of cold-hearted ruthlessness, rather than seduction or glamour, though. In my book that is not necessarily a bad thing, by the way.

Actually, this could qualify as a floral-aldehyde. Mild florals, mainly neroli, and a bit of dry spice on top of an aldehyde-patchouli base. Vintage and classy. Of course, the blasphemous amount of musks steers this far far away from the rest in this genre. Various types of musk introduce themselves in an overwhelming opening blast. They seem to disappear slowly, but close to skin there is still a clear vibe of raunchy animalics.

After that Big Bang of musks, there is an accumulation of high pitched notes -neroli, spice, aldehydes and a sharp woody note- that feel particularly dry and piercing. This continuous sharp angle kind of gets on my nerve. It takes a few hours to settle down into a much more balanced floral-aldehyde, but by that time I have already lost interest in the scent. Pity.

Animalic Musks
It seems to me that all Eris fragrances have an animalistic nuance to one degree or another, but this one is the dirtiest of all of them (in a good, fragrant way). Classic floral blend with “human” musks on a chypre-aldehyde base. The aldehydes are so crispy here that sometimes it smells like washing powder. It’s very attractive and dangerously-animalic composition. And, it remindes me of Tsarine by Senyoko, which I already have, otherwise it would have been a contender for a full bottle.

Strong, vintage a la Rochas Femme, animalic but not unpleasant. Surprising soft drydown. I like it.

Initially fresh and soapy citric-floral, a gentle and dry, animalic/leathery, spicy-woody Chypre, on a warm and musky earthy-woody base.
