For the love of bushwhacking

Green Spell is a deep, earthy, peppery, slightly resinous green scent. It's giving hyperrealistic crushed forbs. Although "spell" is in the name, there's nothing magical or poisonous here. This one's absolutely down to earth, wholesome and Hobbitty. On second thought, maybe there is something spiritual in Green Spell's utter adoration of plant life. After an hour or so, the greenery fades, and a beautiful daffodil emerges in the garden, and a hint of orange blows in on the breeze. This is a gorgeous casual Earth Mama fragrance, for those Earth Mamas that can bear to put down the patchouli essential oil. (Totally unisex and nice for Earth Daddies, too, or anyone who likes Antoine Lie's other work, or bitter green scents like Chanel No. 19). Subtle and unobtrusive, it's perfect for outdoorsy activities like hiking. However, it doesn't last very long. I may spring for a full bottle anyway.

Green Spell from Eris Parfums is as if a celestial being of 100% chlorophyll descended from the heavens, its wings a crushing flutter of many leaves, broad and flat, delicate and curled, waxen, rubbery, pliant, radiating every variation of veridian. In a voice like seeping moss, like eroding rock, like insect wings disintegrating into the earth, it whispers to you, "Like, be not afraid, or whatever." It's the endless trailing succulent stem of a bittersweet pennywort patch through the soil until you reach a darkly massive gnashing malachite rootball nightmare. You awake with emerald scratchings on your palm and jade lashings of fern in your teeth.

Spring greens

Various types of leafy greens are put together in this release from Antoine Lie's hand. In terms of color, this is as ultra-green as Robert Piguet's Futur Eau de Parfum . But instead of being similarly hard-core, Green Spell stays surprisingly relaxed and friendly.

In the middle of this abundance of cold and wet greens, there is the narcissus flower. This pretty flower blows its dry grey-colored sparkles in the wind. In my view, this dusty floral touch changes the composition from a plain salad bowl to a joyful, luminous potion with just that tiny bit of added complexity. Amazing.

The opening is presented with quick shifts and twists between notes. The later phases are relatively linear and just fade out slowly instead of developing towards a mesmerizing drydown. This therefore fits best in a spring / summer setting. Recommended only if you enjoy greens of the vegetale kind.

Green Caterpillar

I call such perfumes "Green Caterpillar" - the scent of thick green leaves and cut grass, softened by the aromas of garden flowers (hyacinths, lily-of-the-valley, violets, roses...). Somewhere in the middle it begins to remind me of Chanel 19 by its distinctive ashy, gray-silver-green roughness. It will be very good for a warm season I think.
