Spicy Lavender

A spicy lavender indeed!

Spicy Lavender opens with an overwhelming blast of pure, balsamic, organic, pungent and incredibly aromatic lavender bearing all the nuances of this fantastic material – woody, herbal, floral... almost skanky and “urinous” too in a way. Almost nothing else initially: it smells like a rich, vibrant British “pure lavender” men’s cologne from the 1940’s. Then, once the power of lavender tames down a bit, I get a bit of a citrus note, cloves and cumin, something dry-herbal, perhaps vetiver on the base. An intoxicating, kind of nostalgic lavender bouquet with a chypre touch provided by something musky, slightly animalic on the base (it may be castoreum too). What makes Spicy Lavender particularly nice is its dusty, austere, somehow melancholic spirit, at the same time elegant, versatile and cozy (like pretty much all good-quality lavender-based scents). Being 100% natural here - and I trust that, the lavender fades away a bit soon, though, while the spicy accord (notably cloves) remains with a sharper and bolder presence; so at some point you get this “switching” of roles, and Spicy Lavender leans more on the spicy side just scented with a light echo of lavender. Still compelling, but I personally prefer the first part of its evolution. Overall surely not a ground-breaking scent, but a solid, simple, refined must for all lavender’s lovers.
