Wood Class vs. Classy Wood
I stumbled upon FM 152 rather by chance. An impulse buy that was justifiable due to the low price. Yes, the adventurer in me was awakened. Admittedly, this was one of my first purchases when I started to delve into perfumes. I thought it would be great to have an affordable scent that I could really wear, one that no one knows and that I might love. I ordered the fragrance online somewhere. Yes, I can be that bold. What I received was a very rectangular blue glass bottle with a nearly cube-shaped cap, so not the somewhat rounded version that is depicted here.
About the scent: It starts with freshness; bergamot is listed in the pyramid. However, it reminds me more of limes. From the very beginning, dry wood resonates. This becomes more prominent as it develops. The top note actually evaporates after just a few minutes. The wood remains. Until the end. Warm tobacco, soft leather, and light smoke join in. Everything is very subtle and refined. I keep discovering the wood first and find it distinctive. But it remains the first violin in the orchestra and does not become the soloist. That was the entire development. The scent lasts for several hours, practically a whole workday. That's nice because FM 152 is very suitable for everyday and office wear. I consider the sillage to be rather unobtrusive. But of course, it's hard for me to judge what kind of cloud I am spreading around me.
FM 152 is not fresh, as one would expect from the top note. It’s also not really spicy. Woody, yes, that it is. Fine, old, well-aged wood is what we are offered.
The comparison with Bentley for men absolute is quite apt. However, in my eyes, FM 152 loses the comparison. I find the smoky note in Bentley to be good, but here it tends to get overshadowed. I use both fragrances, but I prefer to reach for Bentley. There’s more pepper behind it. I could also make a comparison with Fahrenheit absolute. However, the comparability here is even weaker. I am completely taken with Fahrenheit absolute. It is also woody, but much more reduced, much spicier, and truly multi-layered. And FM 152 cannot offer that.
Yes, FM 152 has not become my great love (that would be Fahrenheit absolute). But I like it.
Many fragrances available for little money are often quite piercing at the start, indeed cheap. That is not the case here. FM 152 may not win an Oscar in the "Wood and Smoke" category. But I wouldn't be surprised by a nomination. Clearly, especially for little money: this fragrance gets a thumbs up from me. FM 152 is not wood class. Here, wood is class!
