Clone Wars - La Nuit De L'Homme vs. FM-329
First of all: What a ridiculous perfume name! Two letters followed by three (randomly?) chosen numbers. I don't know who is responsible for naming at Frederico Mahora, but one could expect a bit more creativity. Just continuing a series of numbers is really lame. Especially when you want to recommend the fragrance but first have to check the right number sequence on the bottle (Edit: They aren't even on the bottle. So nice to look it up online ...). I just can't remember this 329. It reminds me a bit of the new Star Wars film, where Stormtrooper FN-2187 is simply renamed "Finn" because no one can/wants to remember that stupid designation. Therefore, I would really appreciate more creativity (labels like Intense, Extreme, Sports, Ultra can be skipped). The bottle and sprayer are also rather average - but acceptable for the price.

So what can one expect from the scent FM 329? Is it really the perfect copy of La Nuit De L'Homme? A clone that can surpass the original?

To make it short: FM 329 is a La Nuit De L'Homme without the top note.

For me personally, this is indeed a big plus point and will also make the hearts of others race. Because the top note of La Nuit De L'Homme was never really the strength of the fragrance. Only with the heart and base notes does the scent develop into our well-known favorite. Additionally, the longevity on my skin is better than the original. A good 2 hours more of heart and base notes. That is the big advantage of FM 329. Moreover, I find the sillage to be slightly better. In these areas, the clone is ahead!

So is there an absolute recommendation for all La Nuit fans? No.
Why? You get more of the heart/base note, the longevity and sillage are better (at least better than in the 2015 and 2016 versions). So what's the catch?

FM 329 has a synthetic note when smelled directly from the skin. For a "cozy scent," this is actually a deal-breaker. In the air, it is in my eyes a one-to-one copy, the perfect clone that can even surpass the original. However, directly from the skin, it falls short compared to its predecessor. Here, LNDH dominates its clone because it comes across as more pleasant.

So whether you choose the original or the clone is up to you.

Reasons to choose the clone:
- Better price
- More of the heart/base note of LNDH
- Better longevity (about 2-3 hours)
- Slightly better sillage (fades about 1-2 hours later than the original)
- In the air, the exact copy of the original

Reasons against the clone:
- The synthetic impression directly from the skin
- Like the original, not a performance monster, but significantly harder to wear up close

FM 329 is therefore not perfect and not better than the original. Its strengths lie only elsewhere. Those who don't mind a slightly synthetic-medical note will get a very strong copy of a very popular fragrance with FM 329.

(Edit 12.06.2017: Here I have to slightly lower the rating. Although I still like FM 329 in the air, the synthetic note bothers me more and more. Therefore, I hardly reach for the bottle anymore. At the moment, I wouldn't buy FM 329 and would rather go for the original.)
(Edit 05.07.2018: I bought a 2018 version of La Nuit. I would say the longevity and sillage are almost identical. In other words: FM 329 loses that advantage too. So one should rather go for the original.)

La Nuit Zwilling or rather Flanker?
FM329 is a bit harsh right upon spraying and has a somewhat nutty scent. This peculiar note disappears within a minute and soon reminds me quite strongly of the heart and base notes of La Nuit de L'Homme.
Although cardamom, the main note of La Nuit, is not listed, I still think I can smell it.
Later, the fragrance becomes a bit softer and more amber-like than La Nuit de L'Homme (even though amber is also not listed as a fragrance note) and, with a bit of imagination, reminds me of D&G The One.
I should note that I neither own La Nuit nor The One, but I have smelled them quite often in the perfumery.
There are lists online, like this one http://en.spisperfum.pl/, that long listed FM329 as a dupe for La Nuit de L'Homme.
Now it lists a different fragrance, namely Boss Soul.
I have never smelled Boss Soul. However, if you look at the listed fragrance notes, they actually resemble Boss Soul more than La Nuit. (Update: I have since been able to try Boss Soul and it had nothing to do with FM 329 in my impression.)

How similar is it to its big predecessor now?
In the first test, I noticed no difference from La Nuit de L'Homme from memory at all. However, in a direct comparison in the perfumery, there was a difference, although I wouldn't necessarily say that one is better or worse than the other.
FM329 could easily be a softer flanker of La Nuit.
I might even draw a parallel to the similarity between Chanel Allure Homme and Perry Ellis M.

Overall, FM329 is a solid fragrance and possibly interesting for La Nuit fans looking for something similar for a change.
Additionally, it costs only a fraction of La Nuit but does not smell cheap at all (hence the good rating).
The sillage and longevity are not bad for a copy (especially on clothing), especially since La Nuit de L'Homme is said to have significantly declined in this area since its reformulation.
However, it is not a highlight in my rather modest collection, which mostly consists of dupes and cheapies. I find the FM335, a copy of Oud Wood, much more interesting.

PS: My first comment on Parfumo, inspired by the user BossArmani.

La Nuit without the top notes. It starts with the heart. Slightly sharp directly on the skin. In the air, just as good as the original. Better longevity!

the drydown is all about the night. and the projection is very strong, at least in the first hour. I'm quite impressed.

€ 25 for 100ml is definitely worth it as a twin to La Nuit de L'Homme - you can spray it more often - great value for money!
