Time to upgrade..
As we all know, we upgrade things to 'improve certain situations'. Even though I'm not an Anglicist, I think I'm on the right track with my little definition to interpret the word. If this is not the case - fine - ;-).
What am I actually getting at? I received Santal Complet as a sample about 2 years ago. A little digression: I was brand new to Parfumo at the time and didn't really know any niche perfumes. Inspired by YouTube, I dared to order a bottling. Until it found its way to me, I imagined THE fragrance. Coconut and vanilla - what could go wrong? Nothing!
It came as it should, of course. The first spray was enough for me to write a negative statement. I found the coconut far too dominant. Vanilla was completely absent and there was no mention of the other notes anyway. I didn't pay any more attention to the bottling. I concentrated on other coconut-vanilla fragrances. Well, none of them really knocked me off my feet. One was too sultry, too oppressive, too synthetic, too sweet, etc. and immediately.
I came back to Fragrance du Bois when I bought the Oud Jaune Intense Parfum. My nose was already richer in fragrance experiences and yes, I think I can now smell notes that I can easily identify. And not just in like or dislike :).
I dared to try Santal Complet again because I wanted to make sure that this fragrance really wasn't for me. And lo and behold, the bottle now lives with me! When I spray it directly, I get a soft coconut with an even softer black pepper. This combination of components gives the fragrance that little bit extra. The vanilla mutes the sharpness of the pepper so that nothing is scratchy or too aromatic. Sandalwood resonates like an elf and has a somewhat balsamic effect on me. I can't really smell any violets. Perhaps this is also the art of interweaving.
In any case, I would like to upgrade my opinion and also the rating of the fragrance by giving it an even 9 in my eyes.
