A lovely surprise from a dubious brand
I don't know if they're well-known internationally, but ~15 years ago, George Gina & Lucy bags and their bulky carabiner hook decor were inescapable in Germany. A dark chapter of fashion. Yes, I had one, too, no, I'm not proud of it.
So, I really didn't expect much from a fragrance by this brand. But the notes and reviews sounded interesting enough, so I gave it a go.

Bitter Sweet really is surprisingly good! I wouldn't call it a dupe for Cuir Beluga, but it definitely leans into the same direction. Soft suede and powdery vanilla with a touch of heliotrope, very enveloping and cozy. The difference is that Bitter Sweet isn't as delicate, fluffy and fine-tuned as Cuir Beluga, instead it's a little darker and rougher, which might be a plus for some. The artimisia note makes it stand out, its herbal scent feels almost anise-like, so the fragrance reminds me of licorice, too. The black pepper adds another layer of intrigue. Bitter Sweet is aptly named, that's just what it smells like.
Remarkable, especially for the price. Strong like for me. I wish it came in a better bottle. A hidden gem for Cuir Beluga fans on a budget.

The Street Dog
This bottle! Shape! Cap! It bulges in and out, did someone punch holes in the edges and gnaw at the lid? And why is there something attached that looks like a kind of steampunk beetle from afar, a miniature machine, something that a pomaded, pointy-nosed, twirled mustache supervillain from the Gründerzeit would send out in droves from his underground lair to put an end to bourgeois respectability. And then there's this emaciated tassel hanging off? For me, it's all completely incomprehensible and at least as "not me" as the bags of this label.

In fact, I only have a bottle here because a souk partner, from whom I ordered a decant, sent me the rest of the bottle right away. There wouldn't have been enough left for more decants.

Now, the scent, with its uncompromising takeoff and colossal force, actually reminds me a bit of a steam-powered blacksmith's hammer, which initially raised the question of whether the content was ironically referenced and exaggerated in the design of the packaging (hats off, I would have said), but no, the other bottles only vary in color and there's all this absurd embellishment hanging off everywhere.

The scent takes off without a phase of acceleration, unrestrained and loud, doesn’t say "Please" and "Thank you," but has such a cheeky street dog charm, uncouth, unrefined, I can't resist. It starts spicy-peppery-herbaceous, very, very dark, smoky, and a bit tarry - the sunny bergamot has little to counter it. Nice, I think, and: Really something different - in this price range, you don't find many scents with such a "Go to hell!" attitude.

The scent doesn’t get really quiet in the transition to the heart note, that would be a shame, but more binding tones come through. Good, because now the scent becomes truly wearable. I breathe in smoky, very dark vanilla notes, and if there were black jasmine, it would be in here. Suede says the pyramid, I want to believe it, both as a scent component and as a tactile correspondence of the scent: it’s now rough and wild and velvety at the same time. The slight angularity and unruliness that also remain in the heart note keep it from sliding into an overly generic warm, soft, vanilla banality and sufficiently breaks up the now pronounced sweetness. The street dog remains a street dog. But now it lets you pet it.

“Bitter Sweet” is an exception in its price range, it dares to be different and doesn’t want to please everyone. The scent doesn’t undergo a significant transformation in its final hours, it only becomes a bit milder. The longevity is very decent. Oh yes, and I know that this pendant is supposed to be their trademark, a carabiner, that is. And? Does that make it prettier?

two noses ...
... two opinions.

Today I wore bitter - sweet, without high expectations, as I had previously found George Gina & Lucy to be just "nice." Nothing more, nothing less. At least.

But I let the title guide me, as it fits my current mood.

However, my eyes widened - and my nostrils flared.
What an impressive, lush scent!
The entire trio has worked on this!
The fragrance delivers exactly what the name promises.
Soft sweet vanilla skillfully blends with creamy bitter angelica seed - wrapped in buttery soft aromatic suede.
Just yesterday, I bought a suede jacket in a taupe tone that feels just as pleasant against the skin.
I couldn't resist.
And I find bitter - sweet equally irresistible.
The balance between these two fragrance directions is perfectly maintained.

I wear just a spritz - yet I feel completely dressed.

However, my husband recoils when I try to blow him a kiss - the scent is too full for him.
I am of a completely different opinion - and I firmly state: Bitter Sweet must come into the house.

The Game of Seduction and Surrender...
"The game of seduction and surrender has begun. Dark, imaginative, and refined, Bitter Sweet excites the senses and inspires women to push their own boundaries. The daring fragrance teases with spicy black pepper, captivates with sexy suede, enchants with the feminine flair of white jasmine, and seduces with aphrodisiac vanilla."
This is the text in the promotional brochure that comes with the fragrance.
Big words.
Actually, I just want to smell good - I have enough opportunities to push boundaries elsewhere.
But that's not a problem either - completely independent of these grand words, "Bitter Sweet" is truly a beautiful fragrance, spicy, dark, warm, leathery, and long-lasting. The vanilla is not sweet, the leather is dark, and the top note is slightly sharp.
The transition from heart to base is smooth, and the longevity is good.
The sillage is quite strong at first but quickly becomes socially acceptable.
And when carefully dosed, the fragrance is also wearable in summer.
Presumably, "Bitter Sweet" would smell good on a man as well - I think it could also pass as a unisex fragrance.
And the rest of the promotional brochure can be safely forgotten...

Delicious Surprise!
Huuuuuuiiiiii! I was browsing here at Parfumo, stumbled upon Bitter Sweet, checked comments and ratings, went to Müller today, tested it and WOW! CLASS!

About the bottle: Black, my color! Black bottles always attract me magically and usually make me think of wicked, mysterious scents! Bingo, right!

About the fragrance: The nice saleswoman sprayed two spritzes of Bitter Sweet on my wrist. I: "Thank you! The scent needs to unfold first. I'll keep looking around!" Said and done! My first impression was rather subdued. Nose to wrist, back again, then again... spicy, leathery, a bit "incense-y"! Hello? Where did the vanilla mentioned here go?
I had already put the fragrance on my No-Go list....!
But then! There it is... the vanilla...! Yay, I love it! After half an hour, I was practically sniffing my wrist! Fantastic!

Conclusion: A super scent that changes extremely. Mystical, spicy, and later wonderfully vanillic! And it lasts and lasts and lasts!!! An absolute autumn/winter fragrance!

Tested and found to be very good! Bitter Sweet is allowed to move in and quickly!!!

An anise note runs through the scent, then increasingly more vanilla. If you like that, you'll get a solid, quite interesting fragrance.

Reminds me a bit of Au Masculine by Lempicka, just without the anise. Sweet, powdery, spicy floral, and vanilla in the dry down. Pleasant to wear.

A really great and somewhat rugged vanilla suede scent with power and character. Truly good stuff that you wouldn't expect from this brand.

It resembles Cuir Beluga so much like the bags from the brand resemble a Kelly Bag. Fennel at the start. Later tonka vanilla. A bad purchase.

Dark, herbal, powerful, different. It's very rare for even the partner's nostrils to widen in delight at the first test.

Clear similarity to Cuir Beluga, but BS is rough, harder, wicked, dark. The development is still beautifully crafted, good sillage.

I always smell coffee with anise liqueur & vanilla. I think it's amazing, even though only the vanilla is in the pyramid. Yummy!

Peppery, not too sweet vanilla, leather is unfortunately shy. Oriental with a punch. If you like Lyra and Shalimar... go for it. Compliment shower!

Respect, says my male minority: this one is worth the little price with its perfectly balanced bitter floral sweetness and vanilla unisex!
