Are We In Las Vegas?...
Vermeil for Men opens with nose burning alcohol before turning to an herbal lemon citrus tandem with just a touch of underlying oakmoss in support. Progression from this point on is very linear with the fragrance first displaying a slightly synthetic smelling rose that soon joins an herbal booze-laced authentic smelling sweet smoky pipe tobacco with hints of underlying cinnamon, patchouli and oakmoss. Projection is deceptively excellent and longevity is outstanding at over 15 hours on skin.

Vermeil for Men is not going to set the world afire with its complexity or subtlety. Its bottle is in the shape of a lighter (with some mistaking it on first glance for a hip flask) and it delivers exactly what it promises. You get tobacco and to a lesser degree, booze. If you are looking for interesting progression or super-high quality components look elsewhere. That said, sometimes you just want a simplistic fragrance that delivers the goods and in Vermeil for Men you get just that. No distractions to draw attention away from the tobacco, just minor supporting booze, spice and oakmoss. I can't see many occasions to wear this (except maybe on the smoky casino floor) but when you are looking for a straight slightly sweet smoky pipe tobacco fragrance one would be hard-pressed to find a closer approximation. The bottom line is the relatively inexpensive under $20 a 100ml bottle Vermeil for Men is linear, simplistic and sometimes even synthetic smelling, but it gets the primary tobacco note down just right and has performance metrics that can compete with the best of them earning a "very good" 3.5 stars out of 5 rating. Now that I have a bottle of Vermeil for Men in hand, Las Vegas here I come!

More like......1970s
This is Manly and easy to over apply, if you're not careful.

It was released in the 80s but gives off some strong 70s vibes.

Younger men will probably pass and, in no way, would a girlie girl try this on.

Powerhouse is POWER PLANT.
Hard to believe, but the triad of

a (naturally dominant) almost aggressive herbal quality of the 80s,
a tobacco-like oak-brown, floral-tinged softness of a Viennese k.u.k. barbershop, and
an elusive, timeless to hyper-modern, cool-androgynous smoothness

is harmonious.

On top of that, we put on the Mensch-Maschine (vinyl, of course) and listen to the four men:

Neon light, shimmering neon light
And when the night falls
This city is made of light.

Is this still a thing?
Well, the longer I wear it, the more I like it. Can this really still exist? I'm confused.

Actually, the fragrance notes are no secret; there's nothing extraordinary in it, I mean, nothing that one wouldn't already know. And yet, there’s something about this scent that draws me in so much that I HAVE to keep sniffing my wrist.

I don’t think it smells very herbal, green yes, (mossy-soft-warm-green), or could it be the blackcurrant instead? But you can't really pick out any of the mentioned flowers directly, can you? Or is it the rose-coriander mix that excites me? But no, that's not it either. I just can't name it; it's like magic, I can't figure it out. It smells so real, not synthetic at all, but can that really be? What year could it be from?

I just ordered it online normally, it didn’t even cost that much, so I didn’t expect anything great, just a nice-smelling, rather herbaceous-masculine scent. But it’s so much more.

Anyway, I have never smelled this fragrance composition before, even though I am familiar with all the notes.
So spicy, aromatic, finely mossy, such a well-balanced men's fragrance that also suits women who don’t want to smell powdery or sweet; it’s a dream. Yes, that’s it: an oak moss dream, I believe real oak moss was used here, but of course, I can’t say for sure, as I am an absolute novice and not a perfumer.

Enough rambling. There are many more people here who can describe this better; I like this Vermeil, I’ve never heard of it before, just wanted to test it out, and now I’m fascinated. Absolutely fascinated.

"The true nobility knows no fear."
A night in the gentlemen's room:

Dark, massive root wood, dim light, and five large chairs covered in brown leather - in an evening gathering, five old gentlemen in noble attire:

THE EXTRAVERTED GRAND SEIGNEUR:
Sociable and generous, he leads the group. Adorned with a well-groomed gray full beard, he fills the surrounding air with the sweet notes of his Cuban cigar and the mild-spicy scent of his cognac, aged for decades in oak barrels. He dominates the conversations, being relaxed and captivating.

THE WILD ROMANTIC CAVALIER:
Dressed elegantly in a dark suit, he listens to the stories. He doesn’t speak often. In a corner adorned with flowers and blossoms, he dreamily enjoys the company and indulges in his thoughts. He is enveloped by the scent of dark red roses, sweet jasmine, and intoxicatingly sensual ylang-ylang. He is silent, yet so present.

THE EXTRAVAGANT GENTLEMAN:
Often stubborn, yet always gallant, he joins the conversation. With a distinctive voice and upright posture, he philosophizes about experiences from days gone by. He exudes the scent of warm-spicy, peppery galbanum, fitting his dark-friendly aura. A worldly man, knowledgeable and inspiring.

THE CULTIVATED NOBLEMAN:
Well-groomed and refined, he steers the conversations. Always mannerly, with a monocle pressed firmly to his eye and a top hat firmly on his head throughout the evening. His freshly combed sideburns emit the soapy clean scent of clary sage and geranium. It smells of shaving soap and barbershop, of herbs and bitter-fresh oak moss. A scent that endures throughout the evening.

THE UNRESTRAINED ROGUE:
With a sharp gaze and decisive words, he unites wickedness and charm. He is neither vulgar nor a slave to morality. He tells old stories of indulgence and adventure, digging deep and sailing far, fascinating and invigorating the group. It smells risqué, slightly leathery, and seductive - animalic notes of musk and civet flood the room.

“Vermeil Pour Homme” is an indescribably classic and ambivalent fragrance, distinguished and stirring. The herbal violet leaf replaces the missing lavender and, along with the sweet accord of the heart note and the oak moss of the base, creates a breathtaking semi-fougère. Through coriander and patchouli (and presumably also through blackcurrant), oriental accents are set. The combination of (not listed, but likely inherent) clary sage and geranium creates a noble-fresh soapy note, as found in classics like Aigner No.2, Azzaro PH, Paco Rabanne PH, G-Man, and Kouros. Above all, the latter bears a striking resemblance to “Vermeil Pour Homme,” which is highlighted by the characteristic civet note (enhanced by musk) - only this gold-brown vintage elixir is worlds more harmonious and original. The sovereign tobacco note with its alcoholic undertones runs through the entire fragrance development, making it warm, cozy, soft, slightly sweet, and so wonderfully masculine.

Sillage and longevity are phenomenal! Two sprays are enough to envelop the skin in this noble scent for at least twelve hours. The bottle impresses with a wonderfully appealing vintage look in luxurious colors. Unfortunately, this old-school bomb is no longer available in Germany - however, it can be ordered at bargain prices from the USA.

CONCLUSION:
Those who count room-filling powerhouses with outrageous sillage and longevity among their favorites will be well served here; those who love soapy scents with an animalic undertone as well as the smell of tobacco have found their master here; and those who wish to join the circle of gentlemen in evening attire should take a seat on the sixth chair, secure their bottle, and light the next cigar in the gentlemen's room - “In the evening, the day becomes precious.”

Even though your year of origin is unknown here, you belong to the 80s. Spicy, woody, green, herbal, good. Not for sweet tooths.

Tobacco flower soap, herb green, with a no-nonsense vibe. Behind it, a friendly mossy smile. The old sage-basil line just always works.
