Clean thunderstorm in a tropical garden
Deseo starts with strong citric notes, softening quickly and bringing out sweet flowers. I believe I smell coconut because there seems to be a hint of sunscreen lotion. Plus a light aquatic freshness that's not obtrusive. I also smel fruits, sweet oranges probably, and ananas and something juicy and sweet and round - apricot? mango perhaps? - that blends beautifully with exotic-smelling flowers. Freesia, jasmin, orangeblossom? seems fitting. There could be a hint of rose as well, but I'm happy I can't sniff out the geranium. And there's really not supposed to be any coconut in this concoction? I also smell the rich floridness of gardenia. Not in there either?
I don't know the scent of bamboo leaf. Well, in fact I do, but the bamboo leaves I happen to know smell generically vegetable, like grass. And I don't smell that here. The base notes stay in the background for quite some time. I detect no more than a tiny hint of earthiness and woodiness now and again. That could be a bit more pronounced to my mind!
This fragrance is fresh due to the aquatic note, the citrus and ananas, and warm at the same time due to the soft, woody and creamy base. I still smell the suncream scent of coconuts. Coconut mixed with sweet orange blossoms, freesia and gardenia, I think that's a beautiful combination.
Deseo is quite sweet, but not sticky. And no fruitsalad either! I can't single out amber and musk but I'm sure they add to the creamy warmth in the background.

According to the official story behind the fragrance it was inspired by the scents in JLos garden at midnight shortly before a thunderstorm. This garden is clearly of tropical lushness and can't be far from water (Los Angeles? I don't think so!). There is a faint damp mossiness that grounds the fragrance but doesn't stand out.
After some time has passed, the aquatic notes show up again. It's either the rain coming closer or a wind coming from the water is freshing up. The fragrance is still fruity, but it's no overripe, sticky fruitiness, but light, citric, sweet, fresh, just ready for harvest. Later on I get a distinct whiff of ananas, even later a whiff of dry cedarwood.

This dry cedarwood becomes stronger and somewhat subdues the fruits and flowers linking them beautifully to the soft, warm and creamy base notes and to the smell of water that's still there. I'm waiting in vain for the smell of damp earth, though. But the scent becomes greener, fresher and cooler which matches the program but is an unusual sequence in a perfume. How can something with those base notes become cooler instead of warmer?
Unfortunately it's not an earthy-humid but an almost clinically clean, transparent coolness. The sandalwood entering the stage hours later can't change that either. This fragrance seems to turn an "Infiniment" on me, it's the same cold note, even though it's not as icy or as strong as in "Infiniment". But Deseo seems to be a fragrance meant for hot summery weather, and JLos fragrances are mostly clean anyway.

I was wrong after all: The sandalwood did change it, it only needed a few more minutes to chase away the clinical coolness and to spread a spicy and soft warmth. And now amber dares to leave its cover followed by musk. And the coconut is back as well, albeit delicately in the background. Now this I like again!

The longevity of this base is good, too, it really lasts all day. The sultry thunderstorm in the garden doesn't last more than three or four hours, though. Longer if I sprayed it into my hair.

Deseo really is a pretty summery scent and better than the average celebrity scent. Maybe that's due to Jennifer Lopez having worked in a perfumery after school. Deseo is surprisingly complex and runs through various stades. It can easily stand up to other fragrances in the same price range, Escada for example, but not to real high-class fragrances.
I miss a bit of tartness, a couple of earthy and woody notes in the beginning. To me it's a bit tame as it is.

Deseo yo un poco màs de olor de tierra húmeda y màs de olor de madera en esta fragancia.
The bottle sits comfortably in your hand and is easy to use - if you push the nozzle with your thumb cradling the bottle in your fingers. The colors are a lot paler in my flask that in the photo. Well, not quite: Seen from the narrow side and lit more artfully the colors come out even stronger with the lid having a stronger amber colour than in the photo above. And the bevels produce a pretty play of reflexes and different colour depths. Only it's not a garden they bring to mind but the beach, golden sand and blue sea and that's in line with the drydown of this scent after all.

Perfectly beachy
I really liked this perfume. It's floral and sweet without being too young and sickening. I can imagine this fragrance appealing to women and not just little girls. I actually find this fragrance quite sophisticated and versatile. It could blend well into any situation, whether it be a casual outing or a special occasion. I also find it quite beachy. Unfortunately Deseo is not long-lasting, so I find that to be this scent's only downfall.

The beach scent
Luca Turin names this fragrance coconut melon. I get both, but only because I read his review. Both notes are very subtle, yet really nice. It gives me the craving for drinks under a parasol, by the blue-green sea in the summer heat on a white beach.
To me Deseo is a nice, fresh perfume, great for the beach. It has a summer vibe, light and more spicy than flowery. The fruity notes in the beginning do not last for long and the stage is taken by amber, nutmeg and musk with a very modest jasmine in the background.
The bottle looks great in photos. When I look at it on my shelf, unfortunately it looks a bit more plastic. The design is great, but it should have been all glass - not a plastic top. I know it makes the bottle cheaper to produce but what a shame…

In the nursery with the baby sharks.
Today while tidying up and reorganizing the perfume cabinet, I came across this beautiful Deseo bottle....
Yes... where have you come from, my little darling... I haven't sniffed you in ages... come here…. what a pretty bottle you are......

I sprayed a little, oh, it’s still very good. I remembered that I definitely haven’t worn this fragrance in over 10 years, yet it was once such a great holiday love…..
...........I remembered, in 2009 we actually managed to treat ourselves to a few saltwater wraps again while planning our vacation. Saltwater wraps are synonymous with diving holidays for my husband and me. We have been diving for over thirty years.

Since we prefer traveling to just vacationing, only a few locations qualify for a diving holiday. The Red Sea, for sure. We don’t find the Caribbean that interesting. Andaman Sea-Thailand, yes. But if you also want to really relax, and by that I mean what I understand by relaxing, the Maldives have always been the only option.

I don’t want to leave unmentioned that we have long avoided the luxury resorts there. Who needs toilet seats adorned with Swarovski crystals, or an underwater restaurant?
I’m happy with a barefoot island with beach bungalows, preferably with an interesting house reef that is easy to dive. In the evening, a sundowner, good food, and excellent room service. Also, a well-equipped dive center with nitrox tanks, nice people on the dhoni, and a private guide for the first dives.
In 2009 it was Vakarufalhi, the island hadn’t been luxury-ified back then. A typical pancake island, with a very shallow lagoon, the nursery for small reef sharks. They are a bit longer than an arm - so really still babies and extremely curious. If you stand still, they come up to you and gently nibble at your calves.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Usually, you fly to the Maldives via the Emirates or Oman, where there is a stopover and enough time for perfume shopping. I believe in 2009 we had a layover in Sharjah.
Now I finally get to the fragrance.

An extraordinary test bottle caught my eye while I was browsing. A bizarrely shaped gemstone, the cap and bottle blend into one another. A first spray and ... bam, my holiday began……. Only as it empties does it reveal that the bottle is made of light blue tinted glass.

The bitterness of the yuzu fruit and a special aquatic accord, which I couldn’t quite place, immediately captivated me… I misted myself a bit with the perfume and hurried to the checkout. Our flight was already being called and my husband was waving impatiently from afar....
Relatively quickly, a sandalwood base emerged and to my great delight, the fragrance shifted more towards floral without giving up the aquatic note, remaining so for many hours. Much later, all the other base notes showed themselves, with the aquatic tone and a hint of flowers quietly lingering until the end.

Deseo remains unforgettable for me, connected with diving in 2009 in the Maldives. It is for me a summery-sensual-erotic island feeling fragrance… When my husband helped me peel off my suit after diving, and a scent mélange of exotic floral accords, sandalwood, neoprene, and my saltwater skin tickled his nose….

Besides Deseo, I don’t know any other pop star fragrances. (I could change that too....)
and I still find it charming after all these years and still wearable.

Summer Paradise
I like almost all of the JLo fragrances. So far, every scent I have tested from her has convinced me, except for one. They are all glamorous in their own way.

This fragrance feels to me like a beach vacation. Just as the bottle looks, it smells like sand...sea...warmth...sun. Simply fantastic for me.
A wonderful sensual scent for the evening hours at sunset.

"Deseo," translated from Spanish, means desire.
The name lives up to its promise; it immediately evokes the wish or longing for a beautiful, relaxing beach holiday.
And a little bit, I can even experience it while wearing this fragrance :-)

Watery, nondescript semi fruity-floral. The bottle is pretty cool though.

This could easily pass for a Goutal or Ineke on me: Interesting, extraordinary development with depth and flowers, flowers, flowers...

Goes in the direction of Seathalasso, without sweetness, fresh and subtly spicy, discreet. A great summer companion.

Deseo takes us to a tropical island "by Night". What I smell: coconut sensuality, rain accord, floral notes, extraordinary.

One of the most beautiful driftwood scents I know. Warmth, tropical plants, the smell of thunderstorms hangs in the warm air over the sea.
