With Jo Loves, there exists another fragrance line by Jo Malone, the special feature being that Malone personally creates all the Jo Loves scents. This time, I am testing The Flower Shop from this range.
Yes… you see correctly, I am once again testing a floral scent. I always complain that I have no idea about flowers, but I am getting some practice through many floral fragrances. Even though I still can't recognize many flowers (both olfactorily and visually), my knowledge is gradually increasing,… albeit very slowly :D
While I used to only know roses, I can now even identify one or two flowers :D
And who knows, maybe it will actually get better in the future? Well, it will probably take a little longer, so for now, I have to continue to walk around with a certain designation, as a perfumer once called me: flower philistine!
* sigh * :D
Alright, now to the scent!
The Scent:
At first, I smell a delightful, wonderful mandarin. Initially, you can smell the juice, which is pleasantly tart and zesty. Then this scent shifts more towards the inner peel with the white threads, which I find just as beautifully fragrant (it’s just a bit more bitter).
Then come the flowers. And quite a lot of them. I can smell the lily of the valley first, as they have the most intense scent at the beginning. It smells like white petals with a slightly sweet, lovely note. And then… yes… what comes next?? :D
I can only smell jasmine a little, and to be honest, its sweetness blends with the general sweet notes, making it hard to say “Ah, I smell jasmine!” Narcissus I can hardly perceive at all, as I would have surely recognized this note due to its distinctive scent.
Actually, from the heart note onwards, you can say that it simply smells generally floral. These are spring-like, light, and easy, fortunately not dry-stuffy, but indeed just as the fragrance name suggests: It smells like in a flower shop, which is quite nice.
In the base, you can hardly distinguish the flowers anymore, but it still smells quite pleasant. A hint of iris comes in, but mainly more musk, although the scent does not become too sweet, but remains lightly warm with floral notes. The scent is also slightly powdery, which should come from the aforementioned iris. Moss, on the other hand, is again one of the notes that I could hardly smell here.
The Sillage and Longevity:
Unfortunately, the sillage is quite low. One should not be deceived by the zesty mandarin at the beginning, as the scent loses a lot of intensity already in the heart note and becomes almost skin-close, meaning you can probably only smell the fragrance if you hold the wearer close :D
I also found the longevity to be very weak, as there was hardly anything left of the scent after three hours.
The Bottle:
The bottle is rectangular and filled with a light yellow fragrance liquid. On the front, there is a white label with the fragrance name and a red dot, which represents Jo Malone's signature. The cap is black and cylindrical. Like the Jo Malone bottles, this one is also rather simple, but it looks quite okay!
Hmm, the scent is not as bad as one might think based on the average ratings here; at least I don’t find the scent bad. Strictly speaking, it is nothing extraordinary, as similar-smelling fragrances can be found in many perfumes, but it exudes a lovely aura of spring with the first warming rays of sunshine, giving a feeling of contentment as the cold, rainy, and muddy days are over.
However, since it is unfortunately very weak, the scent is only usable for personal enjoyment, as it will not stand out to anyone else. Thus, it could also be worn at work without any worries.
Anyone who likes floral notes with a touch of mandarin (peel) might want to check this out :)
