Classy Leather

This fragrance is for me a truly classic and successful "stand alone" leather scent. For my taste, it starts off a bit too synthetic, but fortunately that fades quickly, and what remains is very clean leather and light wood/musk notes.

Great for blending with something sweet or fruity, or even just classically worn alone as a leather scent on a cool Sunday.

You really can't go wrong here and get a clean leather perfume without much fuss...

Lost in the Reflection

The brand was previously unknown to me, and I approached a few fragrances for the first time without any expectations. There are several scents that carry quite intriguing names. Names evoke something within us. One has an expectation of how something should be. When it turns out to be different, which often happens, disappointment sets in.

Smoke and Mirrors sounds like a smoky spirit with multifaceted aspects, depending on the angle from which you view it. Like a mirror. It should convey that. But it doesn’t.

Smoke and Mirrors disappoints right from the very first touch. No smoke rises; rather, it’s a mild steam. As if you just took the lid off a pot while cooking in the kitchen. What an opening! A real spa atmosphere in your own kitchen. It smells of mild spices that have no kick and blend with the steam. Then, a cloying note of indistinct flowers quietly trickles down the scent progression, mixing with honey, which is heavily enriched. After a while, a faint incense lingers in the room. Everything dissolves into a fog, almost sinking into the reflection of the wearer. This scent has no spirit and no character. It could be any generic perfume from the drugstore that just happens to have a bit of smoky notes. Everything feels too blurred, milky, and unclear. The incense note hardly comes through because the honey doesn’t let it breathe. Somehow, I feel like they didn’t know what the scent ultimately wants to be. It’s not even a shadow of its former self.

The longevity is solid, but it feels quite unbalanced and lies lazily on the skin. There’s nothing that would touch you or elevate the mood or tension when engaging with the scent.

Unfortunately, a total miss from me.
