Divine
Before spraying on Encens Divin, I was a little concerned about how sharp the top notes (pepper and ginger) would be in the opening but as it turns out, I had nothing to worry about. The opening was a slightly spicey resinous vanilla that reminded me of Ambre Tigré. Rose notes along with wood and incense followed soon afterwards. After a while, amber and treacle (molasses) notes came into play. A very nice olfactory experience.

Though I did enjoy Ambre Tigré, I would recommend saving your money and purchase Encens Divin instead as this is Ambre Tigré with a lot more depth.

Projection is around 6ft (2m) and is still noticable after 10 hours. Can easily be worn for any occasion professional, leisure and intimate. During my first day of wearing Encens Divin, I received a few unsolicited compliments from co-workers.

Full bottle and signature scent worthy for men or women.

Incense in Incredibly Elegant
Encens Divin was my last fragrance from Givenchy's "Atelier" line - and it is still one of my favorites. It's a shame that it is no longer available.
Encens Divin is a noble, understated scent. So completely different from the current "in your face" fragrances that are in vogue today. Perhaps that is why it was doomed to disappear - even though it is such a beautiful companion.
The presentation is simple and elegant. Completely in harmony with the scent itself. Again, there is a fabric wrapping on the cap, as a tribute to Givenchy's fashion tradition.
The name reveals what this fragrance is about: divine incense.
Almost immediately after spraying, it makes its presence known. For me, it is not smoky and rough, but velvety elegant. Soon, woody notes emerge, providing a wonderful base for this fragrance.
Encens Divin was my first incense fragrance and immediately captivated me. Since then, I have tested various incense scents, but none have touched me as much as this one.
The subtle hints of pepper add a delicate sharpness, which contrasts beautifully with the quickly perceptible sweet tones of rose and vanilla.
The overall composition is, even in the drydown, dark, elegant, without becoming too sweet or heavy.
The longevity is good.
Encens Divin is not a loud fragrance. It does not project endlessly, does not fill the room, but remains with me in discreet elegance - and that is something I really appreciate about it. Anyone can be loud - but this kind of understatement is not so easy.
I would recommend everyone to test this fragrance - unfortunately, it is no longer available.
So why this review? Because I believe it deserves it!

The Stone That Is Not a Stone and the Perfume That Is More Than a Perfume
For a long time, I have been waiting to leave a comment that my absolute favorite fragrance has long deserved. “Encens Divin” has been accompanying me since autumn 2018 - the “culprit” is the nice salesperson at a duty-free shop at London Heathrow Airport, who was able to accurately assess my fragrance preferences and delighted me with a spritz of the golden elixir to such an extent that I couldn't let go of my arm crease during the nearly one-and-a-half-hour flight to Hamburg. The distinguished Brit next to me deliberately ignored me until his phone disappeared under the seat during turbulence. I helped him search by using mine as a flashlight. Our eyes met upside down, and he was likely hit by a wave of “Encens Divin.” He promptly exclaimed, “Oh, it DOES smell good!” His phone was found a row behind us.

But now to the scent: The peppery top note is surprisingly soft, almost with hints of honey and embedded in the already rising incense, which carries all the other notes along, enveloping, connecting, and refining them.

If “Encens Divin” were a gemstone, it would be amber - a magnificent, large, highly polished amber with facets of dark orange-brown to radiant gold, in which delicate insects trapped in time dance. Its depth and long-lasting scent development are like the play of light and shadow, allowing one to discover new details within this stone that is not a stone. Like the partially millions-of-years-old tree resin, “Encens Divin” also evokes associations with prehistory and early history, a time long before our time, thanks to the incense and amber.

The scent transports me to Mesopotamia to the first high cultures, to cities like Ur and Akkad. Here, a warm wind blows around the ziggurats, but not only the people, the gods are also at war and must be appeased time and again with fragrant offerings. Wise rulers like Hammurabi and Gilgamesh ensure that these rules are strictly followed, and so the incense can still be smelled in the warm stones long after the sun has fallen behind the horizon and tasted in the balmy, dusty air. That is the divine incense!

The association with “Akkad” by Lubin is by no means coincidental, as these fragrances are indeed soulmates. Both evoke a depth and beauty that few fragrance compositions achieve. Both do not skimp on a wealth of ingredients from the Middle East, with the rose absolute and the balsamic cedar notes of “Encens Divin” making the scent even more beautiful and deeper for me than that of “Akkad.”

Anyone who loves “Akkad” might possibly fall for “Encens Divin.” I certainly have, body and soul, and I look forward to wearing this ancient, wonderfully radiant dark-light fragrance again in the cooler months.

Dark Beauty
What can I say, I really liked it right from the first spray, and that feeling lasted for the next few hours! This perfume is very dark and mysterious, a true beauty that one rarely encounters in life. I find this fine and charismatic little potion completely deviates from previous fragrance directions. It is spicy; I almost thought I detected a fine hint of excellent espresso, but no, it’s the woods combined with the rose and the incense, really very unusual but beautiful and sensual - daring, a little dangerous. This scent requires a strong self-confidence; it is not a floral and airy-light everyday fragrance. One or two sprays are more than enough; be careful, or you’ll leave your counterpart flat - it captivates them. At some point, it becomes a bit tamer, slightly sweeter, but still with that dark undertone that quietly whispers of mysterious things that take us away. I treated myself to this somewhat pricey fragrance of almost 200 euros and enjoy this dark free spirit that presents itself quite differently. It changes from time to time, but a dark fragrance aura always remains and carries the other ingredients in the four directions of freedom. It would also suit a man; the rose absolute is very well wrapped and peeks out only timidly and cautiously. If the scent were a fairy tale, it would be for me Allerleirauh the Beautiful, wrapped in a coat made of small pieces of 1000 different furs (not real, of course, I am an animal lover), and a dark and completely beautiful being emerges that one falls for. The coat falls away, and there stands this gorgeous dark creature; you close your eyes, and the image captures the heart. The reader may excuse my fantasy journey, but the perfume has touched, fascinated, and captivated me in a wondrous way.

They also needed an incense scent for the series. Well. The result is not overwhelming. Predictable and of course "noble".

Soft, golden-sweet, with delicate nuances that unfold like dark rose petals: here a light sweet spice, there a dark sweet oud. Beautiful!

Sensual, charismatic, cozy. A poem of a perfume! Those who love Oud but prefer “Oud legere” will surely adore Encens Divin.

Smoky leather, cinnamon, vanilla, oud plus the signature incense. Delicately intertwined, never loud, masterfully crafted.

Not bad, not special.
Incense, momentarily reminds me of church.
It softens and somehow becomes fruity.
