Youthful & Majestic
This is all about subdued elegance and refinement. Nothing loud, nothing to upset the balance and harmony in the universe. Youthful and majestic in its own way. Slightly spicy and inviting... It begins as a very well-behaved boy, but then, a few hours later, there is a je ne sais quoi that develops, a tinge of naughtiness that seems to say "Come and... kiss me" (if not more)!

On a Knife's Edge
the scent really leaves a very divided impression on me. First of all: The fragrance notes you read here have nothing to do with what you smell at first.

I don't even suspect that a cheap oud synthetic was used here; I think this synthetic impression arises from the combination of the fragrance notes. I had a long and interesting conversation about this with an acquaintance from Parfumo, and especially with this scent, I notice it particularly.

Oud for Highness smells very similar at first sniff to Montale's Black Aoud or other oud-rose scents, but is then quite different. You can smell a blood-red rose here, and I do perceive oud, which doesn't seem synthetic to me at all. What evokes this impression is probably the saffron. It appears wonderfully fruity here, gives the oud a light and ethereal quality, but also brings this typical Montale vibe to this oud-rose combination that many know.

Objectively speaking, Oud for Highness comes across as quite high-quality and well-conceived to me. It seems to be a whole lot better than the cheap competition. While I find the rose in Montale, etc., somewhat dull and almost dead, here it is almost juicy, dark red. Anyone who has seen real oud knows this very thick consistency (a bit like warm honey; if it’s like oil, it’s often not great), the oily... and this contrast between a smoky-oily and balsamic-comforting scent. I don’t know if real oud was actually used here; but I can well imagine that in combination with the saffron and the rose, it creates such a scent impression.

To my surprise, the fragrance even changes quite a bit. This also distinguishes it more clearly from Black Aoud and similar scents, which show significantly less development. The rose and saffron seem to become gentler at some point, and you can actually smell wonderfully natural honey. The scent doesn't become sweet, but very skinny, sexy - really nice and cozy.

Subjectively, it remains for me "first yuck then wow." I'm just not a big fan of any saffron-oud combinations, and I rarely like oud-rose combinations either. When rose, oud, AND saffron come together, then for me, they’ve really hit the mark. For the first few hours, the scent smells valuable to me, but subjectively not necessarily "beautiful"; this is simply because I don't like this combination. In the base, I find it really great. I'm on a knife's edge between disgust and enthusiasm, complicated.

However, I would still look elsewhere in this price range, especially with established oriental fragrance houses. As an alternative, you could also try the Mukhallat Oudh Siufi by Rasasi. For me, it is the more beautiful rose-oud combination, smelling dreamy and lasting forever in textiles.

Oud for the Masses?
Which ambitious perfume brand doesn't launch "its" Oud today? It seems to sell like hotcakes, so a critical look is warranted. What is chaff here, and what is wheat?

Krigler comes right out with Hussein I of Jordan. In 1975, they supposedly served this perfume exclusively to the Hashemite king. Now, however, we are all supposed to buy it and experience the shine of this truly royal fragrance - who believes that!

Amber, honey, oud, saffron, sandalwood - these are notes of traditional Arabic perfumery. I think very delicious perfumes can emerge from these. It is understandable that the Jordanian king ordered something like this from Krigler. Krigler must have delivered something good - but perhaps not exactly what is being presented to us here!

There is something that bothers me about Oud for Highness - the oud! My previous experience makes me skeptical. I primarily know the ouds from Montale and Micallef, but also some rather inexpensive Arabic perfumes that include this note. What I lack is experience with expensive, high-quality, natural oud oils, which seem to be available from Oriscent or Agaraura.

Oud is not just oud. Oud oils differ by region of origin. The age of the trees used plays a role, and surely the expert knows other quality characteristics. However, oud can also be imitated by synthetic substitutes.

The oud note in Oud for Highness reminds me fatally of a cheap Arabic perfume that I own, less so of Micallef and Montale. There is this pronounced sharpness, this medicinal note that strongly resembles hairspray. Hairspray is known at Montale too, but somehow not like here. With Oud for Highness, expert advice would really be needed.

However, I do own a few treasures, namely a sample of Fairouz from Arabian Oud and an unnamed but excellent Arabic perfume oil that was sent to me by friends on Parfumo. Both contain oud, and in both, the oud note is much less sharp and piercing than in Oud for Highness!

Otherwise, Oud for Highness is a great scent! It lies halfway between the rose/oud fragrances that we primarily know from Montale and the more honey-toned oud perfumes from Micallef. In addition, there is this pleasantly musty-spicy saffron - that has something!

Like a bomb, the scent explodes upon spraying and covers everything else. With this oud, it holds true - when you go to try different perfumes, you test the oud last. But then the next flaw comes into view - Oud for Highness loses its scent intensity very quickly. After just half an hour, only about half of it remains. This phenomenon is often encountered in the realm of less expensive perfumes (up to €50). A really good perfume - whether strong or subtle - ideally retains its scent intensity throughout the entire duration (Guerlain can do that!). However, Oud for Highness is quite difficult to apply. Dabbing is of course not possible; only refilling into a travel bottle for cautious reapplication is an option.

With the loss of scent intensity, the oud note recedes somewhat, which is good in this case. Honey and saffron particularly benefit from this. Perhaps there is also some musk in play. The very subtle base scent resembled very much the two perfume oils Tagreed and Atheer from Al Rehab, which I really like. Furthermore, I detected traces of a very dark, licorice-like note - it reminded me of cashmere wood, unless my skin chemistry deceived me. Thus, Oud for Highness managed to reconcile me in the end, but not to convince me.

In conclusion, a recommendation: If you are looking for an oud perfume that lies halfway between a dark rose like Montale and the honey-sweet style of most Micallef Aouds, then take a look at "Emir" by G.Nejman, the husband of Micallef!

A rounded Oud scent.
Although Oud dominates and makes the fragrance very strong, it is by no means harsh, piercing, or medicinal here. This scent is also very wearable for women.
After hours, I still smell only Oud and Amber, maybe a hint of Sandalwood (I would have liked more).
I can't detect honey and saffron. But perhaps it is the honey that takes the sharpness off the agarwood without making itself apparent.
I like "Oud For Highness 75" because I enjoy purist scents. No thousand fragrance notes stealing the show from each other here.
I also think it's great that this fragrance is available in 50 and 100ml. And the price of €115 for 50ml is also reasonable.

Very unique and elegant, the oud note is not overpowering - wonderful for a man, as the base notes are very masculine.

Basically a saffron (rose) & oud
Oud is not animalistic
more earthy-woody
Saffron is medicinal/hairspray
Honey pretends to be rose jam

Upside down world! Oud in the top note and then gone, followed by wonderful saffron with some undefinable fresh-floral accents. Solid.
