Delicate dry vanilla pods
Opens with a blast of alcohol followed by a faint red-apple-like note. (A natural whole apple scent, like the scent of a bushel of apples as a warm late summer wind wafts over it). Then vanilla pod overlaying an occasional whiff of plastic doll-heads as it begins to develop over the first 20 min. Then it begins to really smell like dry vanilla pods, with an occasional waft of vanilla flowers. Over time it lays very close to the skin and you get vanilla bean, some vanilla incense and slight resinous "amber" notes, I think benzoin -- dry -- not boozy and only slightly sweet.
I find it totally beautiful, as a person who has been looking for a quality, natural, non gourmand vanilla. Very delicate and a skin scent, not a projector. The "absolu" in the name might mislead -- it is edp strength according to the bottle and honestly closer to edt.

Burning Vanilla
I'm really glad I blind-bought this on my quest for the perfect vanilla. It smells a lot like CSP Vanille Extreme but less creamy.

The vanilla is woody with patchouli and there is a dark burn beneath the sweetness. The sillage is not as strong as I would like but it is fair. The price is not bad for what you get. I love the bottle.

Smoky Vanilla
My favorite vanilla is a soft, cozy vanilla. Unfortunately, this one is not that. At the beginning - actually the first 3 hours - it is very smoky and bitter. To a certain extent, I do like that, but here it is just a bit too much for me. Only after that does it become a little softer and more pleasant.
I still give it 60% because the quality and longevity, for me almost 7 hours, are quite okay, and it’s just not my direction.

This is not vanilla, this is VANILLA!
Vanilla is, alongside patchouli, a scent that not only perfumes me but, more importantly for me, gives me a feeling of being at home. Home, not in the sense of being at my place, but in a sense of being at peace within myself.
So I have to sniff every vanilla fragrance I encounter and afterwards, I want to own many of them.
The vanilla must not be extremely sweet and certainly not artificial.
In my collection, I have many V-fragrances; some I like, others I love.
Of course, I was very curious about Absolu de Vanille, and since I had been waiting so long to buy it in Germany, I spared myself the detour of testing and placed a blind order.
I was sure that I would like it and hoped that I would love it!
Now it arrived this morning, a very noble bottle: heavy, puristic golden.
Confidently, I spray it on my wrist to let the creamy vanilla envelop me.....BUT THIS vanilla does not want to envelop me...it is not just standoffish...it does not want me to get too close to it, nor it to me!
Like a diva!
Herb and smoky.
My first impression: I do not want this scent! It is not kind to me :o(

Of course, I wait, wait for patchouli, for the other notes, for a creaminess, my feeling of being at home...
I get all of that, but not in the way I know it..differently:
the smokiness remains, a sweetness does not come, only patchouli gives me a hint of familiarity!

After a few hours, I do not just like this scent...I love it!
On my skin, fragrances either smell weak or sweet or soapy.
Absolu de Vanille smells for itself and not for me; my skin chemistry cannot affect this diva.
No fragrance has ever smelled like this on me, and I enjoy this new experience.

Herb-dusty, the vanilla cloud releases incense-stick patchouli, as if it wants to rebel against its kind, hiding the soft core.

Herb, resinous, smoky, subtle sweetness + a good splash of rum - this is not a cuddly vanilla, but a robust unisex scent. But good.

Sex, eroticism, passion, seduction: THE vanilla for men, James Dean-style, casual, leather jacket, pipe. Smoky, with rum.

Patchouli has no place in this mix and makes the scent smell stale & musty!
Not even benzoin-vanilla can help!

smells like Mom's vanilla cake batter from back in the day with lots of Austrian Stroh rum. a bit smoky, very rummy, is that the benzoin?

The heart note behaves like a speedster on the highway: ruthlessly pushing aside all others. A dominant trio of heavy resins and patch.

Develops with a subtle gourmand spiciness and is relatively unsweet; for me, the only true unisex vanilla from Maison.

Smoky, artificial, alcoholic, "constructed" vanilla. Reminds me of flavored Rooibos tea with a splash of rum! Not quite balanced...

Spicy-resinous vanilla with a good amount of patchouli and less sweet than expected. This is quite a decent representative of the genre.

It's not terrible, I mean, what could go wrong with smoky vanilla, but it leaves the feeling that something remains unsaid...
