Must, Booze and Moss

Laura Ashley's Dilys reminds me of the slivovitz my Polish-born grandmother used to make with beach plums, sugar and vodka: a homespun concoction with a decadent edge. Grandma's purple home brew tasted rich, packed a punch and drove a wicked hangover. (Fermented in a big jar, it required you to strain out the maggots before drinking.) Dilys, by the firm that smothered the 1980s in motherly chintz, starts out in the potpourri vein and then (probably thanks to the oakmoss) takes a darker, boozy turn: Yankee Candle meets Blue Velvet. If you're into chypres it's definitely worth a try.

Dreamily beautiful!

In my vintage miniature treasure chests, a very special specimen has hidden itself with the "Dilys (Eau de Parfum) | Laura Ashley." I had no expectations, but I was truly surprised and amazed in the end, as I had never heard of Laura Ashley before! This is a creamy floral dream, both sweet and feminine. The longevity on my skin is more than 12 hours with a successful sillage.

The top note starts sweet, floral, creamy, but also slightly fruity thanks to orange blossoms and neroli. The heart note continues this creamy floral ride. Here, you can detect tuberose, ylang-ylang, and jasmine flowers. Additionally, lily of the valley and daffodils bring a slightly greenish aromatic quality to the fragrance. It also has a soapy scent reminiscent of fabric softener. In the base, iris and violet provide a fine powderiness, accompanied by a hint of sandalwood. There is also a somewhat oriental scent component that I cannot define more closely.

Even though the Dilys Eau de Parfum does not offer anything new or unknown, the overall composition is simply perfect for me. I am absolutely thrilled!

Calimero?

Calimero was the main character of a cartoon series from my childhood: a black chick that wore the rest of its eggshell on its head. A real jinx, whom I always felt terribly sorry for...
"Dilys" reminds me - at least visually as a mini - a bit of that, as the lid slightly overhangs. Apparently also a little jinx, since there hasn't been a comment on Parfumo yet! (That's why I'm getting to it now!) But that's where the similarity ends!

The liquid in my sample is not even as dark as in the picture. First sniff: a mix of flowers and the typical scent of older and complex, yet completely intact perfumes. A very slight "plastic note" - could that be from the ylang-ylang? I perceive a bit of ripe fruit, but apparently that's not actually in there.
Overall, a "nostalgic" floral scent.

However, I probably won't use it (which I usually do with many minis). The mini will definitely go into my box with the particularly attractive specimens!
