a year and a day ago
There are fragrances that break my heart.
Just a little, almost, nearly.
Not completely like some people, not incurable, not repairable - just enough to feel it clearly.
A fine crack, a brief pain, the echo long and aching.
Because they bridge decades with just one breath, the past becomes the present and I forget who I am, what I am.
Simply erasing the years, sitting on the lap of people who have long since gone and yet are so close that I, with my eyes closed, feel the breath and the gentle rocking.
Those fragrances that are so soapy and clean, so unwaveringly mature, straightforward and clear yet so nostalgic at the same time, almost touchingly vulnerable with their winter-sun-bleached aldehydes from a time long ago.
That are serious and thoughtful yet of a cheerful disposition, carrying within them the light of the sun and also the silver-gray of the fog, flowers, grass, and damp foliage on a cool spring branch.
That have voices, clear and easily audible, without being loud and shrill and clumsy, that are true and remain so, steadfast and self-sufficient.
That are women and not mere females, with feet firmly on the ground, sometimes in pumps and sometimes in boots, holding their heads high with their noses pointed straight ahead, the first silver strands in their hair and a halo around their eyes.
That have charm and much character, that are independent of time and style - and came to me as a last drop, just a very last one.
They break my heart with their greeting from a time that no longer exists and will never be again, nevermore.
Such a fragrance is "Freezia d’Or".
