B683 marc-antoine barrois

B683 was the prequel to 2019's Ganymede and the first fragrance release from Marc-Antoine Barrois.
I find there is an interesting connection between the two scents, and please let me know your thoughts if you have tried them.

An imaginary planet

Marc-Antoine Barrois, as a fragrance brand, it's known for the fairly hyped Ganymede (2019) but, before that, in 2016, the brand was launched with this fragrance that, to me, has an even superior experience.

B683 is a mineral spicy scent with a soft leather. It's weird, new, masculine, addictive and appealing. The combination of fresh spices, soft leather and the weird but great mineral accord makes this fragrance a fantastic and enjoyable experience.

The idea of a new planet is well kept here since you have a dusty, earthy, otherworldly vibe around it, with a mineralic smell to it.

It starts off with the spices on front, manly black pepper and chili, to my nose. But with the mineral accord and the leather supporting it. After a while, it becames more about the mineral-leather thing that creates this gorgeous and sensual sillage for a good 8-10h.

The perfumer Quentin Bisch is a really talented person and was able to create something unique here, but also with classic ideas. The mineral effect (that i believe is a combination of saffron, cistus and violet leaf), is very interesting and, in a way, reminded me of Fahrenheit (nutmeg is also a star on that one and it's present here too).

Another thing that i find great is that despite the heavy woody, spicy and leather elements, this fragrance is perfect during spring and summer time.

Ganymede has a fruity fresh green apple note that turns it a great companion on a beach walk, but this one, even with the added somewhat heavy spices, the fragrance is still fresh, mineralic and suitable for the hot weather. In fact, as i said before, i find it better in warm weather. And the sillage is great.

I recomend this one as a great example of a good new scent with new materials done right. For woody-spicy lovers, fresh-leather lovers and eveyone that wants something elegant suitable for work and warm weather, with good quality, personality and appealing to others (i receive a lot of good comments on it).

A new planet has born.

Highly Sophisticated

An introduction of spices galore, but primarily black pepper that's almost invasive to start. Saffron mingles wonderfully in this blend. The existence of oakmoss is also made known immediately. I find the patchouli to be elusive behind the plethora of spices, but in time pierces the veil. There is a subtle sweetness delivered by Mohéli Vanilla, only listed on the Marc-Antoine Barrois site. This is a highly sophisticated fragrance that may take some time to appreciate and that could easily pass as a Roja creation.

Contemporary signature scent, agreeable for seasons and occasions

A long-overdue proper sampling of Marc-Antoine Barrois B683, the house’s first release, the initial version of B683 from 2016 in EDP concentration, not the more recent Extrait released in 2020. The original instantly hits as a modern gentlemanly creation, a woody, leathery, spicy blend with just a hint of sweetness, slightly fresh but still appropriate for a night out. Its note variety is interesting, a mix of spices (peppers, nutmeg), resins, woods, patchouli, and violet—providing the sharp and fresh bits, along with ambroxan and musk. It’s a very fashionable yet still classic-enough signature scent for a man, a more toned-down alternative to something like Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Homme, which, by many accounts (albeit not mine), employs leather and patchouli in excess to the point of smelling petrol-like. Now, 683 has no listed leather note, but the effect is that of a leather fragrance but with a slight pivot toward sweetness and freshness.

This is an easy recommendation for all to try—it may not be groundbreaking but it incorporates useful elements and achieves a very nice, agreeable blend. A modern men’s signature scent is an appropriately moniker.

Marc-Antoine Barrois fragrances are sold at great boutiques like Perfumology, and the B683 EDP pricing is $195/115 for 100/30ml (Ganymede’s pricing is the same; B683 Extrait’s is higher).

I look forward to sampling the Extrait as well as Ganymede (I’m behind on my sampling!), which I’ve both smelled in store but have not done full samplings of.

Well I m not in

A pretty creation, on me the spices are almost absent at the start. Especially the musk, the floral side and the oak moss come out. I liked the sample but I would not buy a bottle because the flowery side even if it is nicely worked does not please me (I have trouble with the flowers) nevertheless it is very well mixed. Delicate with a little spicy side (the pepper ) pretty elegant but not my DNA love
