Moribund Mystery Loukhum
Purportedly the scent was discontinued due to a ban on natural musks and lack of availability of artificial ones at the time.

Patchouli is prominent from the beginning, alongside the perfume starts off with a slightly powdery citrus followed by a rose most closely reminiscent of Loukhum or rose water.

At this point the musk slowly appears, initially accompanied by a very interesting green tea note and of course still more patchouli, becomes ever more fatty and resiny only to fade out into a sweet benzoe note.

Considering the Loukhum I'd most likely expect the Mystic Love in Turkey. I'd call it a late, melancholic passion that might not find a happy end. As becomes a composition of the 80s this Nerval has an impressive radiance, not as sweet as some other musks thanks to the Patchouli heart but still opulent yet smart in all its flowery-oriental decadence.

A sweet whiff of musk with a hint of patchouli will remain with you for the next day.

Thanks to Asya for the sample!

It must be pure love......!
Cursed, by day a man and by night a beast, I endure my existence, day and night, with the hope of redemption for my being. When the moon is high in the sky and the night darkens the day, the curse casts its shadow like demons over my body and the metamorphosis takes its course. What emerges is no friend of man, without conscience, without soul, without hope, without love. A creature of the night free from what is human. Driven by instincts, the beast within me, cursed to hunt, without hope of liberation.

Around the lake, this is my territory, to hunt and to kill, whether man or beast. Soulless, I wander, searching for prey and devoid of compassion. Only a strong love can free me from the claws of my beast. It must be pure love to banish the curse and take it away from me.
The love must please the beast, with dark eyes and sharp claws; what creature could love such a thing? I have long ceased to believe in this love, because it is too hard to find.

So I roam night after night along the lake, but what do I hear? It is a lovely song.
Soft as velvet, the voice of a woman breaks the silence of this night. The wind carries the melody to my ears and leads the beast to her,
when she sees me, there is no scream at the hideous creature.
In the face of man to beast, the desire to tear her apart grows within me.
Innocence envelops her visage, her voice so beautiful and pure, her eyes as blue and deep as the lake in which she seems to dwell. This moment is like magic, the moon shimmers like silver on the lake and it seems to glow. I feel her song touch my heart, which I thought no longer existed in the beast. Gracefully, she swims to the shore and rises from the water like a goddess, her body wrapped in a cloth that shimmers transparently. What is she, a human?
Enchanted and still, the beast stands, she extends her hand to me and I take in her scent.

Soft as velvet, her fragrance, the finest patchouli nuances take their place on a bouquet of delicate rose petals in harmony with spicy accents. Touching like the kiss of a beautiful woman, attributes of a gentle musk wrap around rosy-earthy notes and lend a mysterious depth, like the eyes of this mysterious mermaid. An intoxicating, animalistic, and alluring scent that can seduce with every breath and dissolves all resistance. A truly magical, slightly sweet-powdery fragrance, with a tendency to caress the skin.

Is she the one who can lift the curse from me? Her scent seems to calm the beast within me, like a beekeeper calming his bees with smoke. Her hands glide over my bristly fur and I can feel her warmth. More and more human traits and characteristics regain the upper hand and it seems as if the dark side of my being must yield more and more. In her arms and scent, I feel so safe and human. My soul is touched and can once again receive feelings. The instinct and drive for man and beast seem to fade more and more into the background to dissolve. She has the gift of seeing the human in me and increasingly fills my heart with love and hope. I notice how I am increasingly taking on my human form, morning seems to be approaching. Her scent fills my body with warmth and I lie speechless in her arms. Her song and her scent have filled my heart and thanks to her selfless love, lifted the curse from me, for we lay together for hours until the first rays of the sun touched my body.
It was a magical and mystical love that freed me and gave me a new life,
a Mystic Love!

Psychedelic "Trips" at Cafe "Glotze"
It was during my high school years in the late 70s, early 80s (so-called second educational path). For this, I had to travel to the district town, which was 10 km away, to a brand new school center at the time. Although it was located in the green, in the Bürgerpark, it was only about 300 m from a main road where the "Cafe Glotze" was situated. One of the first music cafes with rock videos, and very popular among the older students. In so-called free periods and after classes, we spent rainy afternoons there with numerous types of tea, lemonade, and cola. Alcohol was only available after 8 PM, by which time we were already home. The trendy "drug" for us was rock music and the strong oriental perfumes and oils. Everyone wanted to smell "psychedelic." It matched the smoky tea and the sounds. Popular were not only the fragrance oils from Indian shops (mainly patchouli and myrrh) but also the quite affordable perfume oils from Nerval that were offered in larger supermarkets at the time. I had 3 different varieties of them: "Wild Love," "Green Love," and "Mystic Love." A long-lasting patchouli-myrrh explosion with large amounts of "smoky" musk. I still associate those wonderful impressions of camaraderie, harmless music, and fragrance enjoyment with Mystic Love. I found it (small bottle, almost full) a few weeks ago in the farthest corner of my bathroom cabinet. I had completely forgotten about its existence. I have been living in my apartment since the mid-90s and must have bought it back then. The contents of my perfume oil bottle were slightly damaged due to the high oil content, but after about 15 minutes, "Mystic Love" began to resemble the familiar "old" scent from back then. A perfume for the cooler season and also for rainy summer afternoons.

One of my mystical fragrance loves from the early 80s. An affordable patchouli musk love that eventually faded away.

Deep sensual warmth, earthy, heavy with rose and snugly animalistic. One of the most beautiful of its kind. Nerval had it, the musk magic.

I bought 2 different Nerval oils for a high price. They only smell like powder now. Should I only buy unopened oils, or is this unavoidable with age?
