Pretty but lacking personality

Every time I order the "mixed bag of samples" from a certain online retailer they send me this one, attached to a single serving sample of the matching lotion and the matching shower gel. So I have had several opportunities over the years to give myself the complete Premier Jour experience. I even had a full bottle for awhile, it was too sculptural looking to pass up.

The fragrance itself never grew on me, even with all those testings. I'll admit that I do have a tremendously hard time finding sweet pea notes that I like. Most times I find them headache inducingly screechy sweet. (Looking at you, Pleats Please and Carven Le Parfum) Premier Jour by Nina Ricci at least wins for being the least upsetting sweet pea I've encountered thus far. The mandarin note comes out very sour to me but it fades quickly. The majority of the wear is sweet pea tempered with a powdery, dusty gardenia note.

I'm sure this is perfect for a lot of people but it's one that feels too "good little church girl" for me personally.

competent femininity

The first couple of times I tried Premier Jour, I was unimpressed. In fact, I gave it away. Maybe a year or so later, I got a half bottle of it as an extra in a swap, so I tried it again. Now I realize it was meant for me!

It's hard for me to pick out distinct notes in PJ - woody floral musk does seem like the right category for it, though. There's sort-of Jordan almond, there's sort-of flowers, there's sort-of musk. Doesn't sound exciting, does it?

But to my nose, it's the essence of competent femininity. It's your friend's mom who always knew the right thing to say when you were having a tough day. It's the nurse who presented bad news about your health calmly and with helpful information. It's the boss who took you under her wing so skillfully that you didn't even know she was helping you.

Wearing it brings out the competent and kind in me, and who doesn't want that?

A Blah Blah Scent

Modern and sexy and if bland i'm not a fan of skin
scents but this seems to be alright, opens green
and woody with clean etchings of white gardenia. dries down sweet with vanilla and sweet pea I don't smell
any orchids nor detect them but it has a beautiful musk
drydown Basically there's not alot to say about this
these are one of the self explanatory fragrances with
the No Fuss No Muss kind of altitude with modern
Perfumery nothing that screams out individuality.

linear and masculine

This scent was fairly linear on me and I thought it was a mens fragrance. Starts woody citrus and then the wood dies down and couple light flowers bloom where it was standing, it is spring! Somehow the Citrus and woodyness finds its way back smothering the delicate flowers.

Like Spring in Michigan, It is not meant for my skin.
