Barely-decent overpriced iris
A clean, synthetic, pleasant “pastel” perfume thingy played on tones of green and violet. Cassis (that omnipresent base that makes recent green-fruity-floral fragrances so similar one to another), plastic iris with no much left of its buttery rootiness, then green leaves, a subtle pollen-floral note, a salty-woody feel of vetiver, juicy pepper and not much else. So basically a trendy, restrained, glossy and unsubstantial contemporary iris scent. Inoffensive, generically pleasant, unisex, in my opinion ranking below dozens of better iris-based fragrances (without mentioning the best ones, even something like L’homme de coeur by Divine works far better). Much linear, with a powdery-soapy drydown and an annoying humid-salty-metallic aftertaste presumably due to all the synthetic stuff. Dull and overpriced, but it would make a nice gift for low-demanding friends or loved ones.

A Powdery Thunder God?
Hey guys, good evening, I hope you are doing well. Christmas is coming soon, so I can imagine that you might be feeling a bit of that Christmas stress, maybe… but I still find Christmas beautiful and have already been to the Christmas market several times… yes, among other things to stuff my face… but I digress :D

Today, I’m going to talk about a fragrance from the brand Odin New York. I really like the brand name here, yes… because of Odin in the name. After all, Odin is the father of Thor. And before you run off, let me assure you that I’m not thinking of Thor as a comic book character (even though I have to admit that I think Thor is really cool! :D), but rather about all the mythological stuff that I find so fascinating! However, this has absolutely nothing to do with the fragrance here…

Anyway, today I’m introducing you to the fragrance Petrana from this brand. Petrana sounds like a woman’s name, and indeed it is a Greek woman’s name. However, Petrana here refers to the Iris petrana, which is a type of iris that grows in Jordan and represents the heart of this fragrance. That sounds like a beautiful, powdery scent… :) And interestingly, Iris, as you know, is also a woman’s name! A woman who would be named Petrana Iris (or Iris Petrana) would therefore be doubly named after Iris or something like that :D

The Fragrance:
The fragrance begins with a wonderful scent cloud, where you can immediately smell the beautiful iris scent. Then pepper comes in, adding a slight, tingling spiciness, along with coriander, which comes across as somewhat herbal and bitter (and where I always hope it doesn’t become too strong… :D). The sweetness that I occasionally perceive comes from the currants, which blend a bit too much with the iris, but that’s okay because it smells great. What also mixes with the iris and is actually hardly distinguishable from it are the violets. In fact, for me, iris and violets sometimes smell quite similar, as both give off a slightly sweet and powdery scent that is very lovely.
Over time, the sweetness of the fragrance increases a bit, which could be partly due to the musk. Coriander continues to provide an herbal background and remains as it is, so it doesn’t get stronger and doesn’t bother at all, as it unusually doesn’t smell like it’s running away.
Much later, it actually still smells as it did before. So sweet and above all soft and powdery. As I said, the main sweetness then comes from the musk. The coriander naturally continues to fade, and I somehow couldn’t smell the vetiver at all. A beautiful fragrance!

The Sillage and Longevity:
Hmm, although the initial scent cloud seems overwhelming for a few seconds, the sillage is unfortunately rather moderate for most of the fragrance’s duration, so it will probably be best smelled up close.
The longevity is also mediocre, lasting about six or seven hours before it becomes hardly noticeable.

The Bottle:
The bottle is, as is typical for most niche fragrances, rather minimalist, as it simply represents a rectangle with brownish fragrance liquid, even though the glass looks quite high-quality. There is no label; the name of the fragrance is printed directly on the bottle, in the lower right corner, and if I’m not mistaken, the print is even slightly tactile (or?). The cap is dark gray/black and cylindrical, it looks solid and gives the otherwise somewhat simple bottle a nicer look. Everything is quite alright.

Yes, I think Petrana is a lovely fragrance. It smells of slightly spicy scents, but above all of beautiful powdery and soft notes, mainly iris and violets. And then later also of musk. Even though the fragrance leans a bit more towards a women’s scent, I still find it somewhat unisex, so it could also be worn by men from time to time… maybe as a cuddly scent or something? :D

In any case, the fragrance is well-suited for warm days; in winter, you could wear it at home for yourself (or as I said, for cuddling, kissing, snuggling… oh, I think you get the system! :D) since it would vanish so quickly outside that you would have to reapply every 10 steps to still have some of the scent left…

In any case, it’s a fragrance worth trying. The price is slightly elevated, but still not excessively high like with some other fragrances; of course, you can definitely find a fragrance like this for much cheaper. Nevertheless, it’s a lovely scent, has no noticeable synthetics, and is therefore worth a test!

That’s it from me for today, see you soon, and have a lovely evening everyone :)

A Clean Deity.
A perfume brand with the name of a Nordic god from the Edda saga. I was very curious about how the scents are.

My first test candidate: Petrana.

The opening of Petrana is quite fruity with a subtle spicy sharpness. The blackcurrant note is intensified by this.

In the transition to the heart note, one can perceive the heliotrope for a few minutes before the iris spreads out. This iris is clear and rather austere in scent. The violet supports this clear impression and then gradually takes over the scent leadership.

This violet note remains with me until the end of the fragrance. Musk and vetiver give the scent a certain cleanliness but take a backseat to the violet. The result is a noble laundry scent, which is excellent as an office fragrance.

I'm not quite sure about the naming of this fragrance. The only useful thing I could find was a weather forecast for a region in Greece or a small town in Italy. I can't really draw a parallel to the scent.

Those who like iris and violet might find their olfactory salvation here.

Alter Schwede
With great anticipation, I approached my first Odin fragrance, already thinking of all sorts of wordplays involving characters from Nordic myths and legends that I could casually slip into a conversation if I ever passionately talked about this brand in the future.
I was rubbing my hands together, feeling a bit tingly inside, as I read the notes and declared this one (Petrana) my potential favorite.
But no way.
Petrana doesn’t love me, and I don’t love her either. The chemistry, you know.
The opening was promising, slightly sharp, spicy-fresh, but then it went downhill. I was subtly wishing for a new type of iris-heavy powder bomb, but all I got was a hint of violet and otherwise: nothing. Longevity was zero. I once gave it 50% because I’m a nice, tolerant person, but I have to correct that downwards. 25% is more accurate.
I’m surprised, but not in a good way.

Odin or Wotan...
...is the highest god of Germanic-Nordic mythology. He displaced the original sky father Tyr from his position. Odin belongs to the race of gods known as the Aesir, who reside in Asgard. The divine Asgard, which is located in the crown of the world tree Yggdrasil.

Odin New York can therefore expect that - at least we Europeans - will have quite high expectations of this brand. At least I do. So it is essential to meet these expectations.

The very dark color of the liquid leads me to suspect a heavy, sweet fragrance. So I spray the scent onto my hand with anticipation.

The opening is fresh, slightly peppery, and mildly spicy, although I cannot perceive any fruitiness. This top note does not last very long; after just a few minutes, the transition to the heart note occurs.

Here, it is primarily heliotrope that defines the scent direction. Iris provides a very light powderiness, which can only be perceived directly on the skin, while the violet leaf completely removes the sweetness. What remains is a gentle, unsweetened heliotrope note that strikes me as somewhat unusual.

Overall, the scent is very close to the skin, which means the sillage is virtually nonexistent. The longevity is also not really good, although a faint scent can be detected on the skin for a few hours.

The base emerges, in my opinion, very early and already integrates itself into the heart note. As a result, a slight earthiness can be perceived in the heliotrope scent note. Thus, the fragrance fades away.

My conclusion: pretentious brand name, expectations not met. I do not know the price of the fragrance, but even at a low price, I would not buy it, as my expectations differ from what the scent offers. Its volatility also does not match the appearance and the expectations that arose from it. What a pity.

The brand has gone quiet. A lovely mix of powdery iris and violet leaf, which never becomes sweet thanks to the vetiver.

Violet leaf, dry spicy accents, heliotrope, and powder: The brand sails a bit under the radar for no reason, this is not my scent.

It blooms, dusty, iris-ing away
and has this... a violet with it... or maybe two...
I couldn't care less.

Iris is wearing a beautiful, light green, slightly translucent gown this morning, resting in the herb-filled grass.

Surprised by violets with blackcurrants! I expected a herbaceous scent from the color and bottle design - well, there's a bit of pepper in there too...

Light and floral. Reminds me of a shower gel from CD Water Lily or something similar. Quite fleeting. The price is definitely inflated for that.

A clean scent with a twist: fruity blackcurrant, a mix of violet, iris, and heliotrope & bright musk. A calm everyday fragrance, H & S rather moderate.

Lightly sweet violet-heliotrope-currant spritzer. Tastes pretty good, but it's only for spring. Light and fresh.

A plunge into a desert flower sea, who planted violets and irises here? Unfortunately, the desert wind blows too quickly and the splendor fades.
