Meh...
A warm, sweetish, powdery feel of “baked bread” as in L’Artisan’s Bois Farine or a couple of Lutens’ I don’t remember at the moment, really plushy and dusty, basically all revolving around the spicy almond note of tonka, the peculiar “pollen-dusty” note of heliotrope and the sweet woodiness of sandalwood, all made even more dry and dusty thanks to a bold “greyish” base note of musk. That’s quite all about that. Kind of soapy, not that sweet, and really dry. I’m quite sure that if they sold a tonka-musk bath soap, this would be the smell of your skin after a bath. A sweeter, drier, more “bready” and more boring version of Helmut Lang Eau de Parfum; or if you want, a dustier, saltier, muskier version of any sandalwood-centered scent – say, Santal Noble. The opening is intriguing, but it soon reduces to a dusty-woody scent with a soapy feel, which smells really linear and kind of plain, a bit cheap too.And that feel of bread – I don’t know how to call that – is just annoying. Finally after a couple of hours it’s all about plain ambroxan, that “grey amber” feel, just vaguely reminiscent of the sweet powdery muskiness of the previous stages. Not sure what to think of this, do you know when something leaves you completely indifferent? It happens with perfumes too to me. It’s not bad, not good, maybe nice, maybe not, I think I need a nap now...

True or false question
I would like to use 01 NOMAD for name, since I do not know the meaning of SUNDA, and Nomad really fits to this fragrance: Two really controversial type of scents are bottled in it, like a real nomad person, who can be really friendly, and sometimes really rejective and difficult to approach.

First component is powdery, smooth and friendly, second one is sour and fresh (almost like fresh lemon). It is really discouraging for me, that I was unable to find any harmony between them. These balanced scents are mingling till that extent as water and oil: not at all.
The base is the kindness itself: tonka bean, so enjoy wearing it, but it can not make me forget the disharmony experienced in the first hours.

The Body Lotion
01 Sunda / 01 Nomad begins aromatic - fruity, but also subtly balsamic - sweet.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to our dear Parfuma "Verbena," as she gave me the opportunity to test this scent with her leftover sample.

The aromatic - fruity - berry juniper berry is drizzled onto a very velvety, soft - woody base note, created by the Himalayan cedar leaf.

In the background, one can catch a whiff of something herbal, citrusy, which can only come from bergamot, pleasantly and harmoniously highlighting the other two notes.

This constellation can be detected for about 20 minutes on my skin before the heart note takes over.

The heliotrope, with its cherry - almond, slightly vanillic facet, sets the tone in the heart note and gives the fragrance a certain feminine powdery aura that is really very pleasantly designed.

At the same time, there is something sweetly floral, but also subtly spicy to be detected, which I attribute to palmarosa, whose scent property beautifully underscores the feminine aura.

Black pepper takes on the background role and is responsible for giving the heart note a certain depth, while the pepper is pleasantly dosed so that one does not experience any sneezing fits.

This constellation makes me think of a very pleasant, yet also noble body lotion, which I personally find very well done.

The heart note can be detected for 4 hours on my skin before the base sets in.

Clear and also deep gray musk receives a snug and cozy aura thanks to West Indian sandalwood.

At the same time, the base also has a slightly vanillic nuance due to the tonka bean, which gives the fragrance a warm, lightly spiced note.

Overall, the scent can be detected for 7 hours on my skin.

The sillage starts off strong, so one is perceived from a whole arm's length away, but then settles into a pure skin scent within 20 minutes.

Maximum Restraint
Nomad is the number 1 fragrance in this designer perfume line from the USA. Amber-colored essences in such pretty, eye-catching bottles - one would expect eccentricity or opulence, but instead, the opposite is offered.

Nomad is a restrained perfume, and that in every respect. Not only are intensity and projection weak, but the composition seems to lack any edges or contours. What I perceive here is a faint sandalwood scent that derives its charm from the interplay with a well-executed citrus note. This bergamot has been enhanced by a minimal floral note and also receives a hint of spice from very little juniper and pepper.

That is quite nice, but somehow I can't feel any spark. This fragrance would require intense exploration, perhaps one would need to douse oneself in generous amounts, and above all, one must want to truly like Nomad!

I don't want to rule out that this delicate creation might develop a special quality after many hours and days of acclimatization - that very beauty that only reveals itself in familiarity. One would have to believe a little that there is a certain resinous quality that makes Nomad interesting and mysterious. With this perfume, we are a bit like with the emperor's new clothes: here, imagination must replace what may not be real at all. Viewed soberly, after the top note fades, nothing remains but a sandalwood softened with musk and tonka.

That is pure boredom - I don't feel motivated to give Nomad as much space as might be necessary and wish other testers more patience.

From Sunda to Nomad - or vice versa
Since I had only engaged with the quite interesting brand Odin from a distance, I was all the more delighted when a sample from the brand reached me. And then it was also the Numero Uno, which couldn't have been more fitting. This could lay the foundation for another intriguing exploration of this American brand.

Name, quality, reputation, distribution, and presentation are all skillfully executed and at a niche level. The company itself is situated somewhere between boundaries that really shouldn't exist anyway. I find the name change understandable; Nomad fits perfectly. It is indeed a nomad who doesn't linger long on a topic but moves on quickly, restless, and then disappears completely faster than expected. Moreover, it is a well-camouflaged nomad that you hardly notice, even when it passes closely by.

My first thought upon sniffing was: Dubstep incense. So extremely modern, barely recognizable smoke and woods. Woods even more so. But despite its modernity, the scent is neither dry nor minimalist. It offers a fruity side, a kind of citrus powder cream, and an equally juicy-sweet powder aspect from tonka and musk. So, a very versatile, capricious scent that still carries enough loyal companion charm. If you want to see it that way, it’s even somewhat split and contradictory - super modern and, despite its calmness, not dull. A good number 1 from Odin that makes you crave more and reminds me a bit of the much more expensive Uden from Xerjoff.

Bottle: even though there is a risk of confusion, I really like the style and structure.
Sillage: initially smoky and decent, then quickly enveloped and cemented on skin and hair.
Longevity: with 6-7 hours, somewhat underpriced.

Odin may not be a god-like scent, but perhaps for aspiring gods of discretion, camouflage, understatement, and gentlemanliness!

In the heart, lovely sweet heliotrope with a cherry note, the base is strong and woody, amyris on a sandalwood bed. Elegant and delicate.

Smells like a nice cream with a citrus touch; invigorating, distinctive but just a cream. Juniper on musk is still good.

Beautiful warm citrus at the start, but shortly after spraying, a warm, slightly spicy, creamy aura develops alongside it. Great!

Surprisingly balanced-average Odin: citrusy, woody, spicy, herbal. Always maintaining the balance between the components.

A secretly fine cuddly scent. Warm, gentle, soft carpet, soft blanket, a shoulder to lean on or arms that embrace. Pssssssssst ...

Gentle heliotrope wood scent, slightly anise-like and powdery creamy underneath. Subtle sweetness. Feels a bit exotic. Discreet and well-balanced.

Heliotrope and wood, I've never smelled anything like it. Not spicy for my taste, more the full aroma of wood. Tonka and musk cuddle up.
