Does A Coconut and Dark Wood Combination Sound Good To You?...
10 Roam opens with milky coconut and a mild spice undertone. Transitioning to the early heart the milky coconut remains in full force as dark woods join it as co-star, with traces of a vague jasmine-like white floral undertone detectable. During the late dry-down the coconut and dark woods smooth into the composition as the milky facets disappear, with subtle frankincense softening the final leg of the composition's life cycle. Projection is average, as is longevity at 7-9 hours on skin.

10 Roam lost me in a matter of seconds with its odd milky coconut and dark woods, not improving until frankincense from the base was able to soften and enhance the composition's finish. The coconut does smell natural but the perfumer Jean-Claude Deville was way too heavy-handed in its implementation with it coming off as sickening. The dark woods play co-star to the coconut at times and support in others, but the awkward combination never works. Quite frankly, that just about sums up the entire composition... "awkward" and "never works". The late dry-down is actually decent smelling, but that is far from enough to rescue this dud. The bottom line is the $135 per 100ml 10 Roam is reasonably priced and certainly distinctive, but in this case distinctive does not equal good earning a "below average" rating of 2 to 2.5 stars out of 5 and an avoid recommendation.

Odin New York / 10 Roam
In short: burning bales of dark ebony wood combined with incense - sharpened at the beginning with pepper and ginger, and softened with slightly dried coconut.
Very good price, good durability.
I think it is worth trying if you like incense, because this note of coconut breakage together with ginger gives an interesting effect.

Incense Lesson
I must confess that "incense" has not necessarily been one of my "attractants," especially when it comes across as overly sacred, dominant, dark, and scratchy. Until now, I could best tolerate it as a "necessary evil" to prevent, for example, an overly sweet fragrance progression.

So far so good, and the emphasis here is clearly on "could."

For the day came when I read Zionist's very good comment and received a generous decant from him. Thank you once again!!

The first test was hesitant; the fear of turning our home into an incense-laden cave was too great.

But what was that? The incense was present from the very first moment, yes, even very present. Initially still somewhat hidden behind peppery pepper and glorious saffron, it quickly made its way.
A pleasant coffee scent spreads alongside it, softening the incense a bit. But what seems to truly define this incense buffer is apparently the coconut milk... which I, however, cannot detect at all. Strange, because coconut actually has a very distinct and typical smell.

Surprise 1: Wow, incense in this form can be a real feast for the nose!

Surprise 2: If coconut milk smells like this, it should appear more often in fragrances!

For me, "Roam" is an absolutely fantastic and interesting scent that quickly captivated me with its unique charm! A dark fragrance with bright nuances that prevent it from becoming pitch black or hopelessly gloomy. An ambivalent scent that is dark but not sinister. Cool, yet with warm (but not cozy) undertones.

If I had to describe an image for "Roam," it would be a night sky filled with many shining stars.

I am absolutely thrilled with this Odin, my personal "incense fear-fighting fragrance," which will soon find its way into my fragrance cabinet. And I am somewhat surprised at myself that I, the "amber-vanilla-tonka-and-whatever-else-is-cozy fragrance type," have apparently discovered a fondness for (his) dark side :-o

The slogan "Black is beautiful" has now taken on a whole new meaning for me!

Remaining Behind
Gently, he knelt down in front of the small table. The years weighed on his bones, that was undeniable, but he was still managing. And it was important to sit exactly like this. They had always sat like this: he with his back to the window, she opposite him. Sometimes the late sun had shone on her face through the large windows. When she had squinted her eyes and scrunched her nose, she had looked just like in the photo from their honeymoon that hung on the wall in the hallway. As if the decades had not passed. But one never sees the people they love grow old.

Immediately, the scent of the spices filled his nose. She had invented this crazy mixture. Saffron, pepper, coconut, and this and that besides. Each ingredient represented one of their shared travels. Occasionally, she had held the bowl right under his nose, knowing how strange he found the combination, which seemed to him like an experimental curry powder. When he had then turned his face away, snorting, they both had to laugh. Now he reached for the bowl himself and inhaled the scent with closed eyes. Without turning away. And without laughing.

The flowers in the vase also smelled, albeit softer and sweeter. They came from the garden. Almost every year, they had to be replanted in spring because harsh or prolonged frost had done them in. Elsewhere in the world, Hedychium coronarium was a pest, but for both of them, this plant was an indispensable reminder of northern India.

He had already brought the charcoal pieces for the incense to glowing earlier. Only now did he add the resin. A small amount was enough; the smoke should not be overwhelming or intimidating, but merely gently and peacefully enveloping.

Everything was laid out before him on the Japanese ebony table that had once belonged to his great-grandfather, who had traveled far as a sailor and brought it back from Kyoto. After his death, it had stood in attics for two generations until they had it restored in a small workshop. His hands gently brushed over the smooth surface, and he almost sensed again the slightly sour smell it had emitted when it had just returned from the workshop.

His hand trembled as he carefully poured the strong Kenyan coffee into the small cups. The thought that one of the two would remain untouched and cool made tears well up in his eyes. Was a long life truly a gift if it meant remaining behind? He had considered placing a picture of her in her old spot. But none could have shown how her dimples moved on her cheeks when she spoke.

Darkness was already peeking in as he took the last tiny sip from the cup. The incense had burned down, the embers extinguished. He loved this cooled, woody scent that mirrored the twilight and would have liked to stay sitting longer; however, he still had to prepare quite a bit for tomorrow. Essentially, he did not feel like company. He had not been able to be cheerful for almost three months now. That would return, surely. Later, when time, the great healer, had done its work. On the other hand, he also had not been entirely sad. He felt too much gratitude for the years they had shared.

Perhaps a little distraction would do him good. His children and especially the younger grandchildren would undoubtedly provide that. And since he had recently seen how his oldest granddaughter held her hand on her belly, he was quite sure that another generation was on the way. Involuntarily, he had to smile. Who would the child resemble? Hopefully his wife, he thought of her again. Because a loved one never truly leaves us.

A Wanderer with a High Sympathy Factor
ODIN N.Y. on Lafayette Street in Lower Manhattan has recently launched several of its own fragrances as a trendy men's and lifestyle empire.

Odin, essentially the Zeus and father of the gods in Norse mythology, relies on loyal allies in his team who continuously inform him about relevant news and events in the world.
These allies are two ravens named Hugin and Munin, who fly through the lands as diligent information providers for Odin - and today one might say they are in "constant Twitter contact" with him.

If one wonders why a company in East America uses the name Odin, one only needs to metaphorically consider the godfather and his two ravens as a representation of the corporate philosophy of ODIN N.Y., which is committed to the latest, trendiest, most fashionable, avant-garde, and modern styles.

When I took a stroll through Mitte yesterday afternoon, I couldn't help but make a detour to Krausnickstraße. Empirically, the consultation at Different Scent is always so top-notch that once you enter the store, the likelihood of leaving without a new and sensational fragrance is nonexistent.

As I was looking for a pleasant incense scent, Odin Roam was suggested, which not only includes incense in its fragrance journey but also coconut, which immediately made my heart skip a beat.

Coconut in fragrance is often shunned or discredited by many perfume lovers, which must obviously have to do with its difficult handling or integration into the overall scent.
My only fragrance with a coconut component is represented in my collection by Virgin Island Water from Creed - although the official fragrance pyramid does not list coconut, I can clearly perceive a beautiful and non-synthetic coconut note.

Roam, in English, stands for wandering in various fields and areas - and has been used as a composition of different ingredients from other geographical zones (savanna and rainforest).

The top note has a slight sharpness from pepper or pepper leaves and is underlaid by sweet-bitter saffron, which is immediately complemented by the aroma of coconut.
The sillage is strong.
The incense note appears early and remains persistent as it forms a wonderful alliance with the coconut, defining a spicy character that never drifts into sweetness, with a refreshing and energizing presence from the addition of ginger, floral notes with lilies, and the presence of coffee blossoms and coffee. The base is characterized by the woody warmth of black ebony in the fading incense-coconut tête-à-tête.
Seasonally speaking, for me, it is an excellent autumn/winter fragrance, very solidly made, and in its warm, spicy, and harmonious nature, it will be very pleasing to both women and men.

Christmas service.
A communion where not only incense but also the scent of cookies fills the air.
Cuddling in the church pews.

Sorry, but smoke and creamy milk only go together to a limited extent, and smoke gourmand does kerosene better than Odin. Sunscreen in smoke.

The scent would be less interesting if coconut milk didn't lay a creamy, diffuse veil over everything. Frankincense is just a companion.

Immediately evokes campfire romance for me in rain & cold. Wood smoke, rugged & dark. Very spicy, lots of incense. Coconut makes it special.
