Ypno is a fruity-floral amber. Oh no, I hear you think, not another one!
Well, actually, it's not that bad.
There's a sharp blackcurrant to give it some sass, and enough contrasts and harmonies to keep a you entertained.
The bottom half is less good though, basically a cut and paste of Champagne, which came out the previous year.

Oriental can also be fruity
Few things are as tied to a memory as a scent. Recently, I sniffed a few of my treasures again, and with Ypno, all the memories of my ex came rushing back. For many years, it was her fragrance until it was unfortunately taken off the market. I have rarely encountered a feminine scent that appeals to the senses through its oriental notes while simultaneously softening these impressions with its fruity notes, pushing them somewhat into the background and thus becoming an everyday experience.

The bottle is packaged in a simple, mystically dark box. The bottle itself is asymmetrically wedge-shaped, with the rounded form of an uneven triangle, fitting wonderfully in the hand like a comforting touch. The black cap echoes the triangular theme, while the deep orange color captivates, especially when light refracts through the glass.

The first impression of the fragrance is immediately fruity - rich and heavy, pear, peach, and blackcurrant take center stage, while citrus influences barely stand a chance. The sweet accents are further supported by floral notes; I smell jasmine and roses, along with something else that must be osmanthus. Soft woods like cedar and sandalwood add a few subtly spicy-warm accents, while vanilla wraps the aromas in its powdery sweetness.

The scent is strong, certainly intense, yet never intrusive. Nevertheless, it carries a clearly seductive message. However, due to its fruity notes, it maintains its everyday suitability. The sillage is correspondingly pronounced, yet still suitable for the office, and I find the longevity to be very good at eight to ten hours.

One doesn't like to think back to a relationship that didn't end on the best terms, but a great fragrance can help ensure that mostly the beautiful memories survive.

It's a pity that Otto Kern's Ypno didn't withstand the test of time. Recently, I've been increasingly smelling women's fragrances again, but I haven't found a perfume with such gentle oriental and simultaneously strong fruity accents since Ypno.

Rose-heavy Booth Magic
I discovered Ypno in one of my mother's old collection sets. An inconspicuous orange bottle that has a tendency to tip over. This 90s fragrance is something special, as it has little that is typically 90s (except for the asymmetrical bottle).
Right at the beginning, you catch a berry-fruity note, but then you are overwhelmingly enveloped by an intrusive and somewhat old-fashioned rose. Old-fashioned because it reminds me of the roses from the classic fragrances before the 90s: opulent, heavy, oriental - but also intrusive and a bit unrefined. The typical rose scent of the wardrobes of our grandmother's generation. However, I prefer my roses to be fresh and fruity, so the scent here overwhelms me a bit. I am surprised that rose is not mentioned in the pyramid here; I find it extremely dominant in this perfume.

After just a few minutes, resinous incense notes break through, but it's hard to say which ones. I like to burn a bit of incense at home, and overall this heavy cloud reminds me of rose incense. I enjoy that scent, but not on myself, to be honest! After half an hour, typical warm 90s notes emerge: oriental flowers, vanilla, and especially amber. All of this combined with the rose incense is quite bombastic, but also somehow nice. Just something different!

Ypno is extremely strong at the beginning with great projection, so much so that I can't even drink my coffee with it on my wrist. It overpowers everything. But after just two hours, the magic is over; all that remains is an exceptionally clean-smelling, fruity-light note. Could it really be that the fruits are coming through now? Did someone turn the fragrance pyramid upside down? One must say, Ypno is quite extraordinary.

As powerful as the sillage overwhelms you at first, the scent is just as quickly gone. Like a mysteriously appearing magician who makes himself disappear in a great noise and fog. An interesting piece, one doesn't necessarily have to have it, but you can keep it for when you need a quick bang of Abracadabra with confetti.

The Scent of the Past
I accidentally found a site that offers this perfume at an affordable price. After occasionally sniffing an empty bottle, I can now enjoy the scent to the fullest again. It is a very sweet and warm fragrance and for me, it's a trip down memory lane that has not disappointed me, as sometimes you remember a scent completely differently. I still love it and can't get enough of it.

Wow, this one is really beautiful!
So, I have another vintage miniature to test. The Ypno Eau de Parfum has truly enchanted me! And the longevity is impressive at around 11 hours. The sillage is also quite strong and particularly explosive at the beginning.

The top note starts fruity with a slightly oriental undertone. I can detect black currants, pears, and a hint of peach. In the heart note, the oriental aspect really picks up speed, and it smells both spicy and floral. Here, cinnamon and ylang-ylang are the most prominent notes. The base has a lovely sweet and vanilla scent with a slightly woody undertone. Over time, a slight soapiness also emerges.

This is simply a beautiful, sweet, and pleasant women's fragrance. I won't part with it!

In the ads, men were falling for the woman one after another. In real life, it was the same ;-) Amazing, unfortunately no longer available.

A bottle like amber..has always been a favorite (late) autumn scent for me, slightly fruity with a hint of spice. Such a pity!
