Dark green marvel

Mizunara refers to the oak barrels in which Japanese whisky is matured. Do not expect a blunt concept of 'booze', though. This is a display of Japanese finesse and a pursuit of perfection. Absolutely top notch.

It all begins with a set of green-woody aromatics that pick you up and drop you into this dark-green place, far from the urban world. Into the heart of this scent, there is a fascinating transition to a warmer cypress-labdanum accord. The cypress is a different type than the usual Hinoki which is also warm, but heavy on the camphor. This is deeper, faintly minty and gives a tingling sensation. The green woods are darkened with amber. A sweet-savory labdanum with a burnt facet replaces the aromatics of the opening. This plus a variety of more subtle notes completes the 'oak barrel' impression with its rich flavors, presented in a perfectly well-mannered and refined fashion.

Rarely did I experience such a psychedelic forest trip as with this perfume - other examples would be Mazzolari and Dryad. Mizunara is just as marvelous as these, while it exists in its own aromatic-green-woody-oriental universe. What a mind-blowingly beautiful character.
