What doesn't fit is made to fit
The other day it occurred to me that I still have a perfume lying around mothballed somewhere. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember what it smelled like or even the name.
A few years earlier, I had a friend who was a little older than me & she raved to me about her favorite fragrance. Back then, Ebay was somehow very different to today & she asked me to search for this fragrance there - said, done & got hold of two copies to her delight, one of which remained for me. Originally I wanted to give it to her later, but as it is with acquaintances, sometimes the relationship ends before it starts. So this bottle has been "mothballing" neatly and tidily in a cupboard ever since and has pretty much fallen out of my memory.
However, I still remember wearing the fragrance for a trial one evening with good friends - a married couple - and the man asked me what kind of fragrance I was wearing. He must have really liked it.
Anyway, here's a bit about the fragrance itself - even though it's officially stated here that it's a "controversially rated" fragrance & the average rating is just 6.6 (with 4 ratings in total), that somehow doesn't do this fragrance much justice either.
In relation to many other things that I have been able to sniff in my fragrance odyssey so far, I can consciously say; this is not (!) a polarizing fragrance. Will there be people who don't like it or can't smell it? Certainly, but do I think there will be a large mass of people? Not a chance!
Somehow the fragrance makes me think of the movie "Eat Prey Love" where the cute little blonde Swedish girl charmingly says "adapted" when asked what her word is. Admittedly; this is not a fragrance from Sweden, but according to a past fashion house of German production & nevertheless; if the fragrance were a personality, I would imagine this very Swedish woman with her word. It fits so well for me, as this fragrance is really very "adapted".
If I had to name a similar fragrance in terms of vibe (& not the fragrance pyramid) that comes to mind, then it would probably be J'adore by Dior (the OG) - both are similarly adapted & cuddly elegant & in terms of color they could also be at least cousins.
Please don't nail me down too much on the ingredients here - I've had it on the back of my hand for a few hours now & I couldn't exactly make out a strong rose, mandarin or yuzu (what's that? What does it smell like?!) or anything else listed.
I could guess that it's a vanilla scent, especially since it has some of it in the DD, but it's not cheap vanilla - it's woven into the rest of the DNA. At first I was surprised at how light it is, despite being an EDP. It weighs as much as a feather and is just as delicate, almost fragile, definitely feminine. It also has something rather "fresh" about it, even if it can't be categorized as a simple clean fragrance or a fresh breeze like the usual suspects of this type. Rather, it gives me the association of a noble lady who has just applied her high-end body lotion in the summer. I dislike these descriptions so much, because I find that when I think of creams, I always think of all the boring drugstore versions that almost all smell the same - at least for me in Germany. Well - for me it's a consistently very pleasant, everyday fragrance & even if somewhere "sweet" then also rather subtle instead of cardboard-sweet gourmand. Floral, light, noble & perhaps also a little "powdery" (/creamy) & not at all fruity - it's nice & without strong edges. Lasts well, but is also absolutely no beast fashion in my eyes, I could imagine a good projection if you spray all around, lasts a few hours and is also - for me - quite quickly close to the body then only noticeable.
All in all; if you can still get your hands on it, you won't make any big mistakes with it & since the masses - in my opinion - are into such pleasing fragrances these days, this is certainly worth a blind buy for some. Those who like the above-mentioned Dior fragrance should check this one out. For those who are looking for loud, polarizing statements, this is not quite for you. Gourmand lovers might like it, but please bear in mind that this is not a sugar bomb. Even though I'm also not a fan of giving fragrances a season, I sort this one in my mind's eye to warm, balmy summer nights strolling along the streets with friends.
