The water of the Andes
Rugged are the shadows of the Peruvian Andes, barren and cool deserted plateaus, the morning falls sharp and cold from the sky, like red veils of chili mist. There gurgles a grape-fresh green mountain stream, murmurs of mint from the cooler, crushed zest of lemons and leaves of basil. Come, let's caress the hairs of the mint leaves and dance in the brown cinnamon glitter.
Do you see the floating soap bubbles a little way down over the wet meadows where the Shipibos wash their cloves and mix drops of rubber milk into the water? There the stream seeps into warm soils, there Palo Santo barks drink it and bring to light balsam crystals from sweet resins and earth, in the depths of the rain forest, on the upper Amazon.

Michel Roudnitska created "Agua Nativa" as the Peruvian contribution to Thierry Bernard's Parfumeurs du Monde project, in which perfumers rely 100% on natural ingredients. The fragrance was conceived as a ceremonial scent used by the Shipibos Indians of the Amazon in healing rituals. As part of the project, they learned to extract essential oils from local plants, which allows them to remain in their habitat and preserve their traditions.
"Agua Nativa" begins with a delightfully cool accord of hot chili, cinnamon, lots of mint, distinct grapefruit and petitgrain, and some basil. In the heart, the accord seems a little soapy and is joined by clove and slightly rubbery vetiver, before the base is mainly earthy and balsamic woody-resinous notes come to bear, palo santo and patchouli. The water of the Andes flows for a good eight hours moderately murmuring to whispering in the direction of the rainforest.
