Tjärn from the Northern Forests
Tjärn looks into the valleys of the northern forests, spitting veil droplets like cold fire, like colorful sharp mist clouds of liquid pepper and red melons, cardamom camphor and cool lemons, washing traces of ash and smoke together at the ends of raspberry-shaped flames.
The mist descends like haze before a storm, moistening light brown tobacco leaves, soaking into gray barn boards, blowing tiny soap bubbles from mosses, wetting the earth and roots of the meadows, the sweet pearls of golden resins shimmering along the delicate branches, with fruity sharpness and smoky warmth, the spicy weavings of old women's sun onto the shadows of imagined firs. Ellen Dahlgren, who usually specializes in bespoke and custom creations, created "Tjärn" as a contribution to Thierry Bernard's project Parfumeurs du Monde, where perfumers rely 100% on natural ingredients. She herself describes the fragrance as an ozonic-woody dive between Swedish lakes and birch forests.
"Tjärn" begins with a liquid fireworks display of warm pepper, eucalyptus cardamom, smoky birch tar, and a chord of ripe melon, tart-sour lemon, and a light sweetness of raspberry. This herb-cool and fruity sharpness is intricately and finely woven with the smoky warmth and lays like a damp veil over the bright spicy tobacco leaves at the heart of the fragrance, before a balance of cedarwood, slightly soapy mosses, rooty earth, and a minimal resinous sweetness in the base truly creates the impression of a forest of birches and conifers in the autumn sun.
