I understand why it's called Clutch...
I received a sample of this with an order from Perfumology, which is always welcome.
At the top, it's smoky with some ginger zing and some sort of balsamic piney vibe in support. Through the middle, some cedar and dry woodiness with some warmth develops. The dry down transitions to some soft leathery resinous notes.
I'm not going to lie, I get why they call it Clutch. There is some combination of notes on the top that make me think mechanical fluid. I know there is a rubber note that is listed above, and I can get how someone can get there, but for me, it's mechanical. The whole of the notes becomes this scent to me. So it's Clutch Fluid like for a car. Rubbery, oily, industrial.
Thankfully, that just seems to stick around only at the top. As it develops, it becomes much more pleasant for me. Becoming dark and a little mysterious with plenty of notes that keep you interested. I can appreciate the effort to develop a unique scent and that should be applauded, but it's not for me.
