On the road with Mandarine and Old
"Railway to the Rooftop" by Philly & Phill appealed to me straight away. When you spray it on, the mandarin immediately comes through - fresh, slightly citrusy, with a hint of saffron that adds a subtle spice. It's not a fragrance that overwhelms you, but one that reveals itself gradually, without much fuss.
Rose and caramel mingle in the heart. It sounds sweet at first, but the rose keeps it in check so that it doesn't become too heavy. It is an interesting blend that is not run-of-the-mill, but does not come across as over-the-top either. Oud is added later, but it is very restrained, almost mild. Together with patchouli and a little leather in the base, it gives the fragrance a pleasant depth without it becoming too wild.
I think "Railway to the Rooftop" goes well with a quiet evening - perhaps not quite as mysterious as the name suggests, but definitely pleasant. The longevity is solid, you still notice it after a few hours without it being overpowering. I find it suitable for fall or winter if you are looking for something that warms without dominating. A fragrance that is simply there and doesn't need to stand out."
