For Fans of Very Subtle, Elegant Fresh Scents
Very, very clean, bright, citrusy start, very delicate-fresh bergamot and lemon, this special note comes from the pear, strikingly bright green, concentrated, the galbanum rather discreet in the background, almost imperceptible, just keeping it from heading towards a cleaner direction.

Shortly after the beginning, it becomes clear that the sillage is rather subtle here; other citrus scents often have a rather bold mood at the outset, which is not the case here. After just 3-4 minutes, it retreats to a distance that is usually typical after 30 minutes.

Quite early on, the magnolia joins in, simply expanding the fresh-bright spectrum, making it creamier, logically more floral, but overall remains about 40/40/20 citrus/pear/floral at least in the first 20-30 minutes. The woods come in very gently and slowly afterwards, bright, polished.

Later, after 50 minutes or more, a certain beautiful freshness from the musk comes in, fitting in well. Generally, it reminds me a lot of some MFK scents, which is why it’s not really my thing in this whole fresh-citrus-floral bubble. The moss is also rather elegant, almost more oil-extracted from it, not naturally green-wet.

It is really elegant and nicely composed for such a fresh scent; despite rather typical notes, it has a certain unique character, yet very low H/S. And exciting looks a bit different too. For fresh lovers who prefer it elegant and subtle, but definitely worth a try.

A Shy Touch of Elegance...
Purchased a week ago in Munich, worn for a week, and a week of mixed feelings. After a long time, I sought advice again in a well-known perfumery in Munich and, mentioning that Bleu de Chanel is my absolute favorite scent, was allowed to smell several fragrances. Among them were scents from Atkinsons, Memo Paris, and also Philly&Phill. From a selection of about 10 fragrances in various price ranges, many interesting ones were present. I specifically tried not to look online to avoid being influenced.

My nose was then convinced by Romeo on the Rocks. A wonderfully fresh, slightly sweet opening quickly transitions into a bit of lemon, combined with woody notes and musk. A great, fresh combination and overall a really successful fragrance that I enjoy wearing.
BUT...the longevity and sillage are an absolute joke for 149 euros. Part of it is certainly due to me and my skin, because while I love fresh and elegant scents, they never really last long on me. Even with BdC, I have to reapply, for example, and even with the fresher scents from ATH, which actually have great longevity, my skin absorbs the fragrance. However, with Romeo on the Rocks, the sillage is not even perceptible at 30cm with 5-10 sprays. Today I sprayed the fragrance at 2 PM, took a stroll in the city, went shopping and had something to eat, returned home at 6 PM, and I could only catch a tiny hint of the scent.

I understand that the fragrance wants to be fresh and unobtrusive, but there is so much more potential in this scent. Give it more longevity/sillage and I will buy it again immediately. As it stands, this will be my last 100ml bottle (unfortunately, there was no smaller size). Instead, I will look at other fragrances from the same house, as there seem to be a few good scents with appealing longevity/sillage on the market.

In conclusion, it should be said that the fragrance really comes across as very pleasant and elegant, but due to its lack of sillage and longevity, it loses quite a bit of credit.
It seems as if it wants to, but cannot... just as it should, but is not allowed to.

Gray is the new summer
I had never heard of the brand Philly & Phil when I was shown a fragrance yesterday at Brückner in Munich after asking for insider tips for summer and spring. I saw several identical-looking bottles on the shelf, but I didn't really think about what I had on my left forearm when leaving the store. After all, I remembered Philly & Phil, and Munich was written on the bottle. Unfortunately, that’s on all the brand's bottles :/ And whether the saleswoman said Grey or not, of course, didn't stick. The walk back was too far, so I had to piece together which perfume it really was that evening thanks to Parfumo. Fortunately, there aren't too many fragrances from the Munich couple, and so a citrus-bright, neroli-like floral summer scent, just one. No oud or roses here, so I’m 98% sure I’m writing this comment correctly.

Grey starts rather yellow and explosively sparkling - the bergamots and lemons are so amped up that a neroli - almost aldehydic feeling sets in. A citrus explosion on a woody base - up to this point, it’s still quite masculine or at least consistently neutral. The scent also remains powdery-citrusy, reminding me a lot of a fragrance I know well, but I can’t recall. Then, however, an unusually floral note, the magnolia, comes in, giving the fragrance a feminine eccentricity and a lot of modern courage. Exemplary and not ordinary, especially given the actually classic base theme. Here, however, it feels so modern and innovative, almost parodic and exaggerated. But exactly such drugged perfumes are in and sought after these days.

Bottle: heavy, but the uniform look along with the fabric cover doesn't appeal to me much.
Sillage: definitely leaning towards a
steroid summer banger like Neroli Portofino.
Longevity: also here unnaturally long and artificially inflated, a very surreal 10 hours. But that can be seen positively or negatively.

Definitely a successful start, despite the confusion about the test object. Unfortunately, I’m too rarely in Munich to test whether the rest of the range can be similarly recommended. Grey is definitely a fragrance that breaks boundaries, both of the classic EdCs and some masculine wearing habits! Very good!

The New Man?
Yes, the people of Munich! Once again, they seem to be ahead of the game. At Parfümerie Brückner, the two Philly & Phill perfumes are currently taking up the entire display. According to their own statement, Brückner is the first perfumery to sell these two fragrances, although they are supposed to be available nationwide in Germany sometime in 2011. Otherwise, the whole thing is quite mysterious. I’m not really sure who is behind it, and I couldn't find the Philly & Phill website a few days ago. So, is it all brand new? It certainly looks very much like Brückner, especially with the addition of “München” on the bottles.

Enough guessing, Rosa is a women's fragrance, while Grey is marketed as a men's fragrance - although the saleswoman at Brückner raised her eyebrows a bit at this. Grey is actually a floral musk scent. Not many perfumes in this category claim the label "masculine" or even "unisex." What can you do? Nowadays, there are enough male fragrance enthusiasts who are not thrilled by the typically masculine scents. They are eyeing the gourmand corner, and even vanilla and powdery scents find their male clientele - just look at Dior Homme.

Flowers on powdery musk. Not exactly original, but Grey has a little surprise. It features the note of magnolia, which is rarely found, especially in men's perfumes. It's something different from the usual rose-lily-of-the-valley-jasmine spectrum that is barely tolerated in men's fragrances. I was familiar with the magnolia. I’m not a flower or plant person; I don’t have a green thumb. To me, this note simply smells like a flower shop, but not unpleasant at all.

The rest is essentially musk, supported by moss, powdery and light, but hardly soapy. Well done! At times, I had the impression that it smelled a bit like “skin,” so physical and sexy.

Let’s say Grey is marketed as masculine or unisex - but everyone has to form their own opinion on whether a “man” would want to wear it. Anyway, it is well made, and the flowers are exceptional. It’s definitely worth a test. Personally, I wouldn’t refuse to wear it, but I might not feel like it very often. As a women's fragrance, Grey will appeal to many, while as a men's fragrance, it will attract only a few customers who will make that choice very consciously.

Fresh, green citrus fruits that quickly lose intensity. If you bury your nose in the skin, you can later still sense wood.

The old wooden house is hardly visible through all the woven flowers and vines. Here it smells sweet-fresh-floral and creamy.

Any citrus opening transitions into a fine accord of galbanum, champaca (magnolia), dry wood, and soft moss. Elegant.

From neon-bright yellow-green to pastel, innocently clean floral notes. Woody, a bit fruity sweet, with a delicate menthol-like facet. Well.

Fortunately: You can do better. Lemon-cedar combination that may not be too original, but is charming nonetheless.

Fresh-citrusy, the magnolia has a rose-like softness, especially green with moss, and the pear is gently fruity. Beautiful.
