A unique and interesting scent

Akatsuki Melba opens with a burst of peach and raspberry, and maybe some osmanthus. As it dries down the jelly joins in and becomes richer as time goes on. At this stage it’s a juicy raspberry/blackcurrant jelly scent. As it continues to dry down, the caramel appears, still with the jelly note in the background. I’m not really getting any vanilla or tonka, but that could be my sense of smell. It’s quite a long lasting fragrance. I also find this similar to Licorice , which I also liked but chose to sell. While this doesn’t have a liquorice note, the main note I get in both is a jelly blackcurrant scent. If you have one, you definitely don’t need the other.

This wont be a full bottle buy for me, but it’s a fun and interesting scent I enjoy smelling. A good 7.5/10 for me. I’d say it’s the best scent from this house so far, and could probably be worn all year round.

So sweet I can almost taste it

Sticky, sweet raspberry jam with peach and caramel are my first impressions. This one has a nice transformation with the notes turning more jammy within half an hour. The salted butter note adds an interesting touch and blends in with the sweetness. It almost smells like a pie at this point.

I'm glad I didn't burn through my sample because this one is growing on me, especially with the dry-down. Good for use with colder weather or a bedtime scent.

Rich sweet fruity scent

Even though I’m not usually into super sweet, fruity bombs, this one was a really nice surprise. Right away you get this juicy peach, paired with a beautiful, full-on osmanthus note. A few minutes in, everything shifts — it turns into a red fruit gelée overload. I love red berries because they bring both sweetness and tartness, and that contrast is such a joy for my nose. At this point, the scent has a fizzy little twist, with a soft but clear acidity that really livens things up
I’m not crazy about the drydown, though — it’s yet another olfactive shift in the perfume: caramel, sweet and salty vibes, vanilla… it definitely brings softness and sweetness, with a slightly smoky edge, especially after about 30 minutes.
And the longevity? Crazy good!

Pleasant, Polished — Just Not Me

Akatsuki Melba is refined, lightly sweet, and dry-fruity in tone. It never becomes syrupy on my skin, and it doesn’t misstep technically. The fruit note feels airy rather than juicy, and the overall composition stays soft and smooth from start to finish.

That’s exactly why it doesn’t land. There’s no spine. No edge. No backbone. It leans gently feminine in its softness and fades into a musky, powder-tinged warmth without ever asserting structure. It’s pleasant. It’s wearable. It’s well made.

I like the scent, I just wouldn’t wear it.

My Grandma's (Strawberry) Jam

When I spray this scent for the first time, I immediately pause. What does it remind me of? Then, slowly, it comes back: a warm and familiar feeling like a hug from the past. And suddenly I knew it: my grandma!

In my mind, I am suddenly five years old, it's a beautiful summer day outside, and I happily stomp through my grandma's old house. This house is located in a small village of 800 souls. At that time, life here is the simplest of the simple: no running water, no one has the internet or electricity - we use kerosene lamps and the children play outside in front of the house all day long.

Back to the jam...
My grandma buys five kilograms each of strawberries and cherries at the market. In a huge pot, she sprinkles the fruit with a lot of fine sugar. In my case, it’s the strawberries that particularly captivate me. Every few minutes, I dash into the hallway to grab a sugared strawberry from the pot. After the strawberries are cooked in the sugar syrup, my grandma takes a fresh piece of bread, spreads it with homemade sour cream, and carefully adds the strawberry jam with whole strawberry pieces on top. I take a bite and feel nothing but carefree joy, security, and bliss. The world is just right.

Now, about the scent:
Upon spraying, you immediately get the peach. After a short while, I smell a delicious jam, but is it raspberry? I can’t tell. Throughout, you perceive the butter, caramel, and tonka bean. This gives the scent a special density. Nevertheless, Akatsuki Melba is not an extremely sweet fragrance. It lasts at least six hours, and you can continuously perceive it.

The packaging also surprised me greatly - it is high quality and feels good. Just like the bottle. It’s a pity that the brand Fomowa is not so well known here. This scent is definitely worth a try.
