A) Another well-made jasmine scent?! B) Not really jasmine at all & that’s why I like it?! C) Am I slowly developing a taste for jasmine?! - correct answer: a mix of everything, most likely B). Because Lys Toscana is primarily a summery, Italian-inspired lily scent. Still striking how little the clearly detectable jasmine here spoils the good impression!
I always refer to moist lily scents like Lys Toscana as the garden pond faction - they smell natural, like flowers & slightly wet, transparent & sometimes even green. For the Toscana in the name, this very wearable lily doesn’t need to apologize, as the scent fits Bella Italia. It is airy light & a visual delight, if it were visible. And it doesn’t need to make excuses for its unisex orientation, as it can be worn by bold men. Maybe layer it with a heavier base - and it’s all set. The girls will love your scent, recognize it from somewhere & want to share your perfume. This masculine, slightly provocative undertone likely comes from the vetiver, but even my arch-nemesis jasmine can have a heavy, animalistic & gripping side. Here it shows me that side & the watery Mediterranean combo works. It somewhat reminds me of some of the Tom Ford Private Blends - which is certainly not an insult!
Bottle: has niche quality & ambition.
Sillage & longevity: summery light, despite the mentioned underlying spiciness. 4 hours.
Conclusion: a worn-out concept, but it still shines. Plus jasmine, which doesn’t offend me. A bit too simple for a (still) higher rating.
