Dark Forest and Wet Ground

Aranyaka unveils an inaugural aura teeming with humidity and verdant streaks. As time passes, animalic, smoky, and spicy sides ascend to prominence. Among the spices, the redolence of cloves dominates. Moreover, smoke is added to cypriol and cypress, rendering an exquisitely composition.

The evoked imagery conjures a scene akin somber woodland, where the moistened earth teems with life, fecundity, and gradual decomposition.

When describing the animalic sides of Aranyaka, I want to avoid the traditional label of "dirty". Instead, it can be thought of as fur that embraces the body.

Opens Promising, Finishes....

Tenacious and composed of highly concentrated dark and damp oils and absolutes...This scent is evocative of a deep dark forest. Crisp, prickly on the senses at first, with a strong mentholated-like mossy green opening which immediately leads into an abundance of earthy-dark-rich soil tincture. As the scent calms in the dry down phase, a strange animalic accord emerges. Things begin to go downhill (fast) from here. A slightly dirty animalic accord (reminiscent of a freshly manicured animal straight from the groomers) takes over meeting a smokey base accompanied by intense lavender oil. I cannot help but to think of the wafting scent of a flock of farm animals that were just shampooed in the barn. Aranyaka has good longevity and above-average projection. Personally, I was unable to ignore or overcome the “goat hair tincture” and found this accord ruined the scent for me. I also found a significant difference between testing this fragrance on paper and on the skin. Overall rating.....opens promising with a solid 9 and rapidly declines to a 6/10 as it begins to dry.

Perfume as Art.

Aranyaka is not a perfume, but a magical green hypnotic potion. This perfume is truly art! I get a strong wet, damp soil note at the very beginning. As the perfume evolves, the luscious green forest accords become prominent. The resins root the wearer in a meditative state, with the soft animalic notes offering the warm comfort of spirit guides offering their protection on a spiritual journey.

This is not a "crowd pleaser" type of scent and if you've only experienced designer fragrances you may not appreciate its beauty. However, it is still very wearable. Although this is an Extrait de Parfum, it doesn't last for enless hours on my skin (on clothes is a different story). I get about 6-8 hours with good sillage, which is more than enough for what it accomplishes with me.

The ingredients are top quality and blended masterfully together, transporting the wearer to another world or realm. I thank Dr. Rajesh Balkrishnan for sending me a sample of this intoxicating fragrance and for allowing me to experience its beauty. His collaboration with Pryn Parfum has produced a wonderful olfactory experience!

A note from the brand - "Aranyakas is a term that refers to the philosophy behind ritual sacrifice of the ancient Indian sacred texts, the Vedas. Aranyakas describe and discuss rituals from various perspectives, but some include philosophical speculations. Aranyaka literally means “produced, born, relating to a forest” or “belonging to the wilderness”. It is derived from the root Aranya, which means “forest, wilderness”. This perfume, created as a Bespoke Signature Perfume by Prin Lomros of PRYN PARFUM for Rajesh Balkrishnan, represents the essence of the vibes derived from both Indian forests and the Vedic texts. Containing a high percentage of natural plant extracts with woods, incense, earthy and animals accords, this bold, dense, and spiritually radiant Indian Vedic period vibe hitherto unseen in modern perfumery. The perfume evokes the natural forest vibe of the Vedic period (c. 1500 - c. 500 B.C.) where the ancient Hindu texts such as the Vedas and Upanishads as well as mythological treatises such as Ramayana and Mahabharata were written. The greenish resinous and earthy scent contains a very high percentage of natural cypress absolute with more than 60% of natural absolute and resin. The perfume concentration is of 35% perfume oil (considered pure perfume concentration. The Silver Mists of Aranyaka

Here on the slopes dwell silver mists, born in the solitude of the inner temples, veiling the past, the view into the valley, sharp and bitter and flickering bright, like pepper dew on bark cool and clove rough on warm fur. Become one with the breath of the stoic goat in the cool shade of the ancient cypress, the pungent hint of wood and lemon, with the pearls of nectar and resin on the bark. The warm goat hair steams in the frost. There are remnants of mulch earth and moss like words from wild herb-sweet musk, taking root in the groundless, withering on your leathery skin, which breathes the fullness of the spicy mist, sinking and rising in deep contemplation.

"Aranyaka," a bespoke fragrance created by Prince Lomros for Rajesh Balkrishnan, addresses the eponymous ritual texts for the orthodox Brahmins of early Hinduism, who retreated into the solitude of the forest to renounce the world. The texts, which served for study and meditation, describe the philosophy behind the rituals and sacrifices, in which goats also played a role.
The meditation opens with a mist of sharp-woody (nutmeg), spicy-cinnamon-leaf (clove), and cool-incense notes, surrounded by limonene-oily-terpenic cypress. Soon, spicy goat hair blends into the silvery mist, through which one perceives the surroundings as if through a filter. There are the woody-rooty notes of cypriol, reflecting the forest floor with the earth and some moss, beaver castoreum stands alongside the leathery notes with bitter sharpness, civet with animalic-herb-sweet musk notes, while beeswax adds floral-balsamic aromas to the incense. A transparent, quite wearable impression emerges, in which the spices, the incense, and the goat hair dominate for a long time, the warm-leathery notes with the civet musk sketching a bucolic wilderness in sepia beneath, while earth and forest gradually recede over several hours.
