Sweet Leaf Room 1015 2021

The opening smells like soup stock that's made with mostly celery to me. There's not much sweetness at all, just a savory vegetable broth full of herbs. I find it pretty strange. If someone was wearing this, I wouldn't think they smelled like perfume but I would think they took a bath in soup.

Performs on skin as it does on paper and stays pretty linear. Don't get anything weedy or hempy at all. It was rather a savory gourmand experience.

With the label designed after Black Sabbath's logo and named after one of their songs, Sweet Leaf awaits with the promise of being a smoker's perfume delight. Whether it manages to deliver on the promise, depends on your expectations.

While to my nose, the fragrance does not smell like the bud that one would smoke, it does offer a decently realistic impression of cannabis leaves and stems. If you are familiar with cannabis flavoured candy and tea drinks that have become increasingly available at health food stores and even some super markets, you get a rough idea of the territory Sweet Leaf will take you to.

From the thoroughly enjoyable opening and heart notes, juicy grapefruit, eucalyptus and hemp are running show with an umami note offering support at the base. For a brief moment, the interplay between citric, green aromatic and spicy elements distantly reminds me of Kenzo Jungle Homme reconfigured to fit into a fair-trade shop scenario.

As you get to the dry down, the patchouli and aforementioned savouriness emerge from the background and makes themselves more noticeable. Without entirely taking over the fragrance, I get vague associations of seasoning sauces such as Maggi, Vegemitve/Marmite, Bovril or even soy sauce. Unfortunately for me, this does have a slightly negative impact on the zingy and green experience from the earlier stages of the fragrance.

Since sensitivity to the umami note will likely depend on the individual, I still think it is worth sampling for anyone interested in hemp centred fragrances.

Performance is average.

For a scent that's supposed to be evocative of weed, this one begs to be a smidge skunkier. It's certainly green and fresh, with a hint of skunkiness underneath it, but it needs to both push that cannabis smell a little harder and improve on the longevity. I would probably bump this up higher on my list of R1015 favorites if it lasted as long as most of the other scents in the line do (about six hours), but I genuinely had a hard time smelling it with my nose right to the skin after only half an hour. On this note, though, I'm not sure if it's really the fault of the perfume itself -- it could be a decant sample problem or maybe it just doesn't sit on my skin right -- because others have rated the sillage as quite high...

Absolutely loved this at first, but then the patchouli came through and I washed most of it off of my arm - it was too strong to enjoy nearby on a warm day. A trace remained on my clothes after the rinse, and I added another layer (Liis In This World) and it was an enjoyable blend.

I'm looking forward to trying this again later when there's a bit of a chill in the air, maybe a spritz in the back of my jacket as a background (read: out of my face) scent. The lingering patchouli is really the only aspect that I don't care for here, so I'm willing/eager to find a way to make it work.

Totally agree with the soup crowd.

On me, it's giving celery salt... but oddly, I like it. Maybe because I live in Canada and it reminds me of the rim of a good cold Bloody Caesar.

However, as many other fragrances from this house, the performance is lacking. I'm a big fan of Cherry Punk wich projects pretty well and stays on fabric for days but this one isn't in the same league.

Over all, I think it's an interesting and original savoury perfume. I definitely recommend to sample it first.
