Skins is a successful cosmetics retailer that started out in the Netherlands and operates internationally now. They offers some exclusive brands and occasionally do collaborations with them. This time with another Dutch company, the house Salle Privée.
Trying to support my locals, I shop at Skins regularly. But honestly, I am not so sure about this collaborations trend. Makes me think of pre-fab mixtures with a few customized details and a label change. “You want coconut? You get coconut. Fine with me, as long as you’re paying for it..” A business model! What happened to the devoted artist working for years and years on his creations, perfecting the formula with endless iterations? Another illusion gone!
But hey, I am no better. I did not say no to the free sample lol. Anyways, how the product became what it is and how it ended up on my skin, that is all background noise. The outcome is what matters. About that, I can be brief.
What I get mainly is a soft woody impression vaguely reminding me of "dusty old books", which I like. It is a comfortable blend of woods with a sweet-spicy cardamom topping and a properly dosed ambroxan. It seems somewhat inspired by Santal 33 Eau de Parfum , with less sandalwood and more cashmeran. The feel is relatively soothing, mellow. Business-appropriate, although it does have quite a powerful sillage. Not at all bad for a pre-fab collab.
